So I just got my first set of SAT scores, and they're better than I thought they would be, but still not great.

SAT: 640V, 660M, 570W

GPA: 3.8 u/w

I'm a resident of the US, and have a pretty weird schedule. I've just moved into a public high school, before that was in a private school in a different country where we worked ahead a year, so I already have 3 years of credits but am a junior. I'm taking senior classes this year(as a junior) and will take more next year for my senior year. SOooo when I graduate I'll have 5 years worth of credits, and still be a year older than my peers.

Right now, I love UVA and Tufts. I've done a lot studying overseas, and that is one reason why I like Tufts. I also have the Duke of Edinburgh award, bronze level and will complete my silver level soon.

I know I'll be different than the other applicants, but will my SATs blow my chances completely? I'm going to retake the test, and look into the ACT.

Schools:
UVA (in state)
Tufts
Dickinson
NYU
Wellesley
Barnard
Lawrence U
MHC
Smith
Scripps

Given your current SATs:

UVA (in state) - Reach
Tufts - Reach
Dickinson - Match
NYU - Reach
Wellesley - Big reach
Barnard - Big reach
Smith - Match

The others I'm not familiar with.

You can get into all those places if you work on grades. Prep for the SAT's some more. Practice in an organized fashion so you know how to do all of the problems in math.

Bring your math and verbal up 50 points and your writing up 100 and most of those reaches will turn into levels.

Many thanks for the comments.

I'm sure my junior and senior grades will be great, now that I've moved I seem to be having the best grades in my life as I start to really get serious.

I'll graduate with only 5 APs, but keep in mind that the first three years of my high school career were spent in a school that did not offer them.

How big of reaches are UVA, NYU, and Tufts?

sorry to do this but...

bump

What part of Virginia are you from? Because UVA seems to be somewhat prejudiced towards the more affluent parts of Virginia i.e. Northern Virginia/Fairfax.

Im from Northern Va, but my new school has no trouble getting students into UVA, from what I've seen.

UVA (in state) -Slight Reach
Tufts -Reach
Dickinson -Slight Reach/Match
NYU- Reach
Wellesley- Reach
Barnard- Reach
Lawrence U -Match
MHC- Slight Reach
Smith- Match
Scripps- Slight Reach

Again, thanks for the comments.

Any more opinions?

why is NYU a reach?

if hes talking about CAS

hes well above their average

he should get in w/ out much trouble

or AT LEAST get deffered

don't know about his EC's though

Well I'm a she (I'm interested in women's colleges) and I am looking at CAS at NYU.

As far as ECs, I've been participating in numerous band ensembles, very active with theatre, and am a camp counselor. There's others of course, but those are probably the big 3.
