So I am one of those kids who actually likes to learn, but is bad at just doing school. I often loose my homework and forget to do things, which affected one of my classes this year to the point that I may end up with a C year average in one class. I know, I wanted to slap myself, too. All of my other classes are mostly shy of an A, but still a B. I may be able to make a few of those A's.
Exceeept, I signed up to take Honor's physics but was placed in ap due to a schedule conflict. I really was interested in physics though (science nerd) and I thought I could pull through. I have a D in that class, and the stress over it led to some of my B's.
Up until now Ive been a 4.0 kid, took 4 AP classes this year and plannning on 4 next year (senior year) while also taking classes at the community college.
How much will this affect my chances at wellesley? I think my SAT and extracurriculars are fine, but this really worries me :s
Thanks for your help!

spinachinacan, I’ll be honest, if you are “bad at just doing school” it’s not going to help your admission chances. Wellesley and similarly ranked schools have no shortage of qualified applicants. Even with strong test scores, extracurriculars and essays, they are not likely to admit a student who struggles academically.

Your junior year GPA is a very important part of your college application. Colleges are much more forgiving of students who start out high school with lower grades but demonstrate an upward trend. If you have a C in one class, a D in another, and Bs in the remaining classes, then you are looking at less than a 3.0 GPA. In Wellesley’s Common Data Set, they list Academic GPA and the academic rigor of your secondary education as Very Important for admission decisions.

Not sure how much longer you have this school year (where I live school ends this week) but do everything you can in your remaining time to try to finish strong and end up with the highest GPA possible. Best wishes to you.

Agree with college_query on this and would also add that if you are “bad at just doing school”, you will not have an easy go of it at Wellesley.

I was always a mostly A-range student and then I got Bs and Cs my junior year! Only one A- in the mix! And I still got accepted :)

So yes, hard but not impossible.

ugh i feel your struggle. i’m currently a junior and i think im going to get my first C this year in honors physics (unlike you, not a science nerd).
although junior year grades are very important, i’m sure that you’re taking very difficult classes. maybe you go to a more difficult school. i wouldn’t completely lose hope. still try. just don’t prepare to get in, but if it happens, congrats!!! i would make sure you have a multiple safety schools that you know you would still enjoy and not be resentful to attend.

best of luck to your college process, and don’t let yourself get too down. even if you don’t get into your #1 (or #2, or #3) choice, you can still accomplish great things with your verocity to learn, a quality that can’t be bought or taught in a classroom.
