Hi! I am currently a junior and my top choice college is Wellesley however i am extremely worried about my current GPA. My current overall GPA is a little over a 3.5 and unweighted it is only a 3.4 I have taken all honors since freshman year and have taken AP World (4 on exam) and am currently taking AP Lang, APUSH, AP Chem and AP Econ. I also volunteer and play volleyball and basketball however my main concern is that my GPA will ruin my chances of getting into this school but if I score well on ACT and SAT do I have a chance?

Wellesley takes a very holistic approach to its admissions. I think that if you have taken strong courseload, you are strong in all other areas, and you show an upward trend your junior and senior year, you could possibly get in. Its harder because of your GPA, but just make sure your essays, application, and interview are stellar! It couldn’t hurt to apply. Good luck!

Yeah, I know exactly where you’re coming from. I also have a low GPA (3.3…it’ll be 3.4UW 3.5W after the end of this semester). To top it off I have really lousy test scores :P

May I ask why your GPA is so low? My GPA is low because I was a slacker my first three semesters of high school, but I have a high upward trend. I’ve heard colleges like that. I’m hoping Wellesley really notices this and how hard I’ve worked to bring up my GPA.

An interview will help, as will a good essay and good recs. And good test scores, of course.

Don’t worry, I’m a senior and still applying with a low GPA. You still have some time (3 semesters, counting this one) to bring it up. Good luck! Hope we both get accepted :)

I slacked off freshmen year and my GPA was really low like 3.4 but after that my grades have been improving but i don’t have an extremely high upward trend. I am taking the SAT this coming January so I hope I do really well to make up for my average GPA.

Best of Luck to you as well!!!I also hope we both get in!!:)

hey I’m in the same boat - I have a 3.4 UW and my W GPA isn’t very high either. I’m taking the SATs this January too, best of luck to both of you!

As a student at Wellesley, they really do a great job really pouring over everything you send. If you can provide evidence of improvement (basically that your GPA increased over the years) and a strong explanation why (maybe you didn’t realize the value of education and had a moment when did realize it), they will take that into account.
Best of Luck! If you have any questions of a freshman (well, first year here,) let me know!
