Just how cold and snowy is U of Rochester

Ok, I visited in the summer and have heard that the weather is cold and snowy. But I live in Chicago. So, compared to Chicago/midwest how much worse is the weather at U of R?

Rochester gets more snow than Chicago, but is probably about the same temperature-wise.

Rochester has a system of tunnels connecting a number of dorms to academic buildings. Depending on your attitude toward the weather, this is a good thing or a concession to the wintery apocalypse.

The Chicago kids at Rochester say it’s about the same - a bit more snow, but nowhere near the amount of snow in Buffalo or Syracuse.

^ And they’re right about comparing Rochester to Chicago—but according to official weather statistics, the average annual snowfall in Rochester is about the same as Buffalo and only a little less than Syracuse.

Average annual snowfall: Rochester 92 inches, Buffalo 90 inches, Syracuse 107 inches, Chicago 39 inches

Average daily high temp:
December: Rochester 36, Chicago 34
January: Rochester 31, Chicago 29
February: Rochester 33, Chicago 33
March: Rochester 42, Chicago 45

Average # of days below 5 degrees F: Rochester 13, Chicago 21

I live in Rochester, in fact, 10 minutes from the U of R.

If you can handle Chicago, you can handle Rochester… i mean it’s really not all that bad. The winters are kinda cold and we get some snow but they aren’t terrible. Don’t let it impact to attend the college it is a very good university

I lived about 20 minutes from U Rochester before moving to MD. Proximity to Lake Ontario does two things: (1) it increases snowfall (2) it helps keep the temperatures a little warmer in winter. They are very good about clearing snow in Rochester and have every type of heavy equipment for doing so. New snowfalls are beautiful.
