Just how important are the class rankings?

i have made pretty much all A's throughout my high school career and am ranked around 20th out of 110. tell me that rankings are fair! There are simply too many smart kids at my school for this to be true.

i am 1/466 and my unweighted gpa is 4.4

Our ValeDICKtorian calls everyone "stupid idiots." He's so arrogant, I wonder what would happen when he enteres college as a freshman.

If it wasn't for his arrogant ass I wouldn't be so bitter. Just because he took the right courses... I mean... I know about 20 people a whole lot smarter (and with more character) than him, but for some reason it seems like this world favors cocky, arrogant, cheaters.

i dont think it matters too much

hey QUICK, if he thinks that way in high school, then he wont get far in collge, its people like that who stress in college to be number ONE and they just burn out and drop out and die horrible freaks...hehe.

Lol. Poetic justice would be sweet.

DO ivy's only look at validictorians, do saluditorians have a chance? I'm 2/416

"i am 1/466 and my unweighted gpa is 4.4"

Excuse me if I am wrong but the highest unweighted gpa is 4.0 ...

oops sorry. I meant weighted.

ehh.. i geuss u skipped Vocabulary class because it was worth less?

well my weighted is a 4.6 but i'm 24/410, i hardly think that's bad, i have harder classes than all but one person in my graduating class... if i'm being punished for my class choices... ;)

You see what's messed up with the GPA system? Different GPA systems results in a confused mire of Weighted GPA's. Unweighted GPA is also my opinion a riduculous way to compare applicants. I know for sure that my AP Bio class at Plano is much harder then no offense, Allen's AP Bio class. Quite frankly, schools can attempt to "GPA Inflate". Heck our number one has a GPA around 4.2 (1/1250 students).

Rank is THE way to compare. I stand firm behind my beliefs.

umm... ok damitssam... i dont see your logic?
isnt rank BASED on GPA????

i agree with crumflake

perhaps a "5" cant understand a "_"(fill in your rank)

"isnt rank BASED on GPA????"

Its based on your SCHOOL "hardness". Think about this. If I moved all the smart kids from my school to allen, they would still have GPA lower then some kids at allen who are not as smart as them. If you move an allen kid ranked 1, he/she will surely not be able to maintain his/her high grades to maintain that 1 spot.

Case in point: #1/500 moves to Mission San Jose High School and becomes rank #57/400.

In conclusion,

GPA calculates rank but GPA nor RANK works to compare high school students since both are skewed by the school.

What the colleges need is a system that uses your Rank combined with your school "hardness" ranking that is composed of a ranking of how hard a class & its teachers are and a school "class hardness" which is compoosed of an average SAT & AP & TAKS (or state standardized test) scores.

Of course that system will never work since we do not have the resources to evaluate every school's classes and teachers. Utopian idea that will never work.

Says something huh rank #5. What school do you go to?

Do you want me to brag about my rank? I could just move to some stupid farm/city school and be rank #1.

With all the dissing your doing, it will be YOU who will suck at college.

its not dissing, its sarcasm... i knew that would be your argument and i shall say this... i do not go to a stupid school, we are pretty darn smart, however we are not huge nor are we known nationally...
another thing, coming from a "five" im sure it will be beneath you... your system will penalize those who do not have the "great" opportunities that your "hard" school has... shall those who fully take advantage of thier surroundings suffer because thier "hardness" was not as hard as your "hardness"?

Being the nice kid I am, I just edited his SAT score out.

u did what?
haha
