Just how important is SAT for transfer students?

Hello everyone!

I want to know if SAT is as important for transfer students as it is for freshmen? I called up a couple of schools and they said that they put less weight on SAT when evaluating the transfer applications than when evaluating freshman apps. But I guess each school has a different policy regarding this. So please share your thoughts and experiences(if you have any:) regarding this issue.

Thanks!

It depends how many credits you have completed. If you are transferring with 60 credits they won’t matter that much. If you only have 15 they will be as important as high school.

Thanks ziggy90

I have completed one year in UK. It was worth 120 credits. Not sure about how many credits will that be in the US. If they don’t matter ‘that much’, do you have any idea about how much it does matter?

^Lol 120 credits is the requirement for graduation at my school…

^ Lol, If I were at your school, I’ll be done by now!

One year here is on average 30 credits.

So the SAT will be very important? I have done 120/360 meaning 1/3 of the degree. Therefore, I have done less than 60 US credits.

Can any successful transfer student share his/her thoughts on the matter please?

I think users here generally say that the longer you’ve been out of high school, and hence the more college they have to evaluate you on, the less SATs matter.

So if you’ve been in uni for one year, they’ll matter more than someone who’s been there for two.

I certainly hope this helps.

It depends on the school. For instances, for the 3 schools I applied too I didn’t have to send in my scores because I had 30 credits or more.

However, despite of the amount of credits you have some schools still require that you send it in.
