Just as the title of the thread says, how important is SAT for transfer applications? I didn't get a good score (1930) and thus I was wondering if it is worth it giving this October/November..

I am looking at those schools which give need blind aid to international students. This is the main reason I want to apply for transfer, as I need aid; more than what my school will be paying..

This means a highly selective colleges. The competition is stiff at these schools, because of their generous FA policies, so SAT will usually matter, and will matter the most if you are a soph transfer applicant.

@entomom- Hmm… And also is it true that your high school grades play a big role in sophomore transfer? Because mine were pathetic, so I am considering junior transfer?

And also somewhere I had read that some universities take only those SAT scores which you have taken in your freshman year of college; they don’t accept anything later than that. Is it true?

Yes, HS record (gpa and course rigor) are very important for soph transfers because you will only have completed 1 sem of college work when you apply.

The only thing I have heard about SAT timing is that some schools will not accept the SAT taken as a college student. You need to look at the website for each college you’re interested in to find out their SAT policy for transfers, and if they are vague, you should call them for clarification.

This is coming from my own personal experience, but if you make the decision to transfer as an incoming junior you’ll have more leeway in terms of how admissions views your SAT score and G.P.A. in high school. I had an abysmal GPA and SAT in high school (much lower than yours) but after taking 2 years at a CC I applied to a couple of schools. Only 1 out of the three asked for a high school transcript and the only purpose of providing them a high school transcript was to prove that I did graduate high school. Of course, this can’t be true for every university, and I imagine that if you’re looking at a top 10 school, your high school record may have a great impact on the admissions process.
