I just received the following update in my UChicago account:

Dear XXXXXX,

Congratulations! While official decisions are several weeks away, we couldn’t wait to share the good news. The admissions committee has reviewed your application, and I am pleased to extend to you a provisional invitation to join the Class of 2018. As long as you continue your strong performance and there is not a negative change in your record, you can expect to receive an official offer of admission in late March. From over 30,000 highly talented and diverse applicants, you have distinguished yourself as a top scholar, and are one of only a handful of students chosen to receive this early offer.

At the University of Chicago, we seek students who are as passionate about ideas as we are. When we read of your scholastic and personal achievements, we knew immediately that you were our kind of student – and that this is your kind of place. Our students truly live the life of the mind – in small classes, at House tables, through exceptional research opportunities, and by involvement in over 400 student organizations. As a college of liberal arts and sciences in the heart of a premier research university, surrounded by one of America’s great cities, unparalleled opportunities and one of the best undergraduate experiences available await you. We look forward to seeing you on campus, engaging in this intellectual adventure with our faculty and your peers while forging lifelong relationships.

I encourage you to experience the University of Chicago firsthand by joining us on campus at one of our Admitted Student Open Houses. On April 10-11 or April 17-18, admitted students from across the country will gather on campus, and we hope you will be among them. Over the course of two days, you and your future classmates will visit classes and research facilities, explore our campus and historic Hyde Park neighborhood, and, if you wish, spend a night in one of our residential houses. If you’re unable to attend one of the open houses, we will gladly assist you in scheduling a campus visit at a more convenient time. To arrange your visit, please contact Mark Kubaczyk, Admissions Counselor, at 773.702.8654 or mjkubaczyk@uchicago.edu. Even if you’ve already visited us, we hope you’ll join us again on campus.

We know you will have an exceptional college career, and we are eager to share in your development as a scholar and as a person. If in the coming weeks you have questions about your application, or about programs at UChicago, please contact us.

Again, congratulations. You have much to be proud of, and my colleagues and I look forward to seeing you on campus.

Sincerely,

James G. Nondorf
Vice President
Dean of Admissions and Financial Aid

I also received a President's Scholarship worth $5000 for use in pursuits over two different summers at the university. Needless to say I'm pretty excited!

Congratulations GMMU10!

Congratulations! You have much to be proud of indeed. Now you may make a deposit and put yourself in line for the housing of your choice.

that is brilliant! congratulations! Wow! I didn’t know early acceptances are given this early! SO, when exactly do the adcoms start going through the applications?
If you do not mind telling us, what according to you got you the letter?
Congratulations on getting the scholarship too!!!

Woah! Congratulations. @Conscience13 I’m quite sure the adcom is in full reading mode at the moment. According to the portal, the decisions should come out in mid-March.

@Conscience13 - I’m not sure what got me this letter! I definitely wasn’t expecting anything like this. My grades and test scores are good, I have a few relatively interesting activities, and I thought my essays were quite strong. But from what I can see there wasn’t one absolute “wow” factor in my application that would have led to something like this.

You must have really deserved it!!! They probably figured the “wow” factor before you did :stuck_out_tongue:
Is UChicago your first choice? Or are you going to wait for all decisions to come?

No, UChicago isn’t my first choice, my first choice is probably Princeton (got deferred REA). So I’ll be waiting for all the responses before I make my decision.

Did you get an email telling you to go check the website? How did you know to check your UChicago account?

“over 30,000 highly talented and diverse applicants.” Didn’t UChicago only get 27.5k applicants? Can’t tell if this is trolling or not?

@Tarheel714 Yes, I got an email telling me to check the website. @bradybest I can assure you that I’m not trolling, I’m not sure where they got that number. Where are you getting 27.5k?

@GMMU10
<a href=“Architect Viñoly’s new GSB designed with eye to detail – Chicago Maroon”>Architect Viñoly’s new GSB designed with eye to detail – Chicago Maroon;
Granted this is a student newspaper and not from the administration, so it might be wrong?

I’m not sure about that then. I can guarantee that the letter I got is real though.

I got one too! I’m non-athelete, strong stats (4.0UW 2390SAT) and very strong essays/unusual ECs and academic background, STEM focus but not an intel winner or anything like that. I got that scholarship as well, does anyone know if there’s a chance at any additional money? Not to be ungrateful, I am so excited!!!

Oh and I can confirm that the letter is real as well, it’s through the same official portal. Perhaps they factored in the EA applicants with the RD applicants to get the 30,000+ number, that sounds about right to me. I got an email from the official collegeadmissions@uchicago.edu email account telling me “There has been an update to your account. Please log in to your UChicago Account to view this update by clicking or copy and pasting this link into a web browser.” In my account there was a place to click status update, which linked me to the same letter that @GMMU10 received and a secondary link to the Presidents Scholarship. I’m curious who else and how many other people got these!

Congratulations! You just got a likely letter. I got the same letter a few weeks ago. Exciting news!

Are these sent out in waves? Or just all at once? Like, they couldn’t have possibly read everyone’s apps by now…

Since @nihilus said he got his a few weeks ago, it seems they do go out in rounds, though I don’t have any hard evidence of that. Did everyone who got a likely also get the $5,000?

Gratz on the likely letters :slight_smile:
Welcome to the class of 2018!

thanks @guccigirl! Is there an admitted students convo thread somewhere?
