So, I checked my UChicago account today and posted was a link saying that "an update was posted to my application" I hit on the link and it sent me to a page with a likely letter was posted signed by the Dean of Admissions.

I am not an recruited athlete and nor do I have any exceptional "hooks" and my academica performance is good, but I didn't think it was something completely outstanding out eye-opening, but thankfully, it seems that the admissions officers felt differently about that.

Anyways, of course I am thrilled to have received this esp. because Chicago was my first choice school. However, I am wondering if any other students recently got one of these.. and also, does anyone know how many of these letters Chicago sends out. I actually did not think that UChicago sent out these letters, so any info regarding them would be really helpful.

AAAH! Same thing happened to me! I can’t believe the letter had been posted days ago and I hadn’t seen it! I’m ridiculously happy. I was also chosen as a University Scholar :).

Congratulations, madrigal93! Maybe we’ll see each other at the Admitted Student weekend.

Would you like to PM me and compare stats? I am really curious what other kinds of applicants got accepted early.
and… what is a University Scholar? I feel like that is something I should know, but I don’t. :-/

Makes me nervous that I didn’t get one, but the point of likely letters is that only a few people get them. I didn’t even know Chicago sent out non-athletic likely letters. I hope it’s just that they haven’t read my application, seeing as they received my mid-year report five days ago.

I just realized that I got chosen for a University Scholar too! I didn’t even realize it because my mind was not working right after I read past the “congratulations” on the likely letter lol.

About midyear reports - so they posted this update on my account on 02/17 and I only mailed out my midyear transcripts/report last Friday (02/18) so I don’t think the midyear reports played any role in this decision. Sorry about that.

I was also deferred. It’s highly unlikely that deferred applicants will receive likely letters because they would have simply accepted us in the ea round.
