Just received my financial aid package..veryy tempting

Hey guys, I just received my financial aid awards package, I got 10k in merit scholarship, 5,300 in tuition remission grant, and 2,300 in university grants, so basically 18k x 4, almost 80k dollars of free money, and then they offered some loans and stuff (perkits loan, fed subsidized stafford loan, and fed-work study), but idk if im gonna take the loans. Basically, they're paying for my tuition for the honors program, it's super tempting, but i find out my other 10 colleges in a couple weeks (cornell, jhu, tufts, top choices), and then I'll decide. But to be honest, when i visited uconn I absolutely loved it, it's a beautiful campus and it's a prime location, and the honors program research I have done so far has lead me to believe it is super beneficial, and of course, going to uconn on a full-ride basically is also a nice lil perk. Hm, any opinions/pros and cons on how I should approach this decision? By the way, all the other colleges, i.e jhu and stuff, I probably will receive very little money.

I just got my financial aid too. I got a very similar package: 10K merit scholarship and 10K in other grant stuff and then some work study and loans. I also got into the honors college and it is going to be a tough decision when I hear back from my other colleges. Did yours say "reutrn the complete award letter via fax within 30 days" too? By doing that does it mean we are accepting the offer of admission or just accepting the financial aid package if we do decide to go?

yeah i had the same exact question, it said return within 30 days, and I won't know how much money and stuff other colleges are giving me in 30 days, I hope it just means I accept the financial aid package if I decide to attend.

I got my package and was confused by the 30 days thing too. I called and they said that if I am unsure, I should not yet accept the package because if I do and I don't enroll the money goes to no one and it's wasted. I don't know about the rest of you, but I'd feel awful if I didn't go and took money away from someone who really wanted to go to UCONN and deserved the money.

Well it wouldn't really be wasted. They would still have the money. They would probably just use it for financial aid next year or something.

When you add the $5,300 in tuition remission grant, and $2,300 in university grants + $9,828 leadership or other major scholarship + the subsidized loans and workstudy, UCONN is really not a bad deal after all for OSS.

When you get your FAFSA back from UConn, do the grants they give you (if any) have ANYTHING to do at all with your SAT/GPA or how much they want you? Or is every grant offered based 100% on your need??

I think the merit based scholarships are sent in the mail with your acceptance letter. The other grants/scholarships in the package are need based. I dont know for sure but that is my guess.

got mine today, 5300 tuition remission grant and 2300 university grant
