I shared this in the parent forum, but wanted to share here for your amusement. A dialogue among parents during pre-prom photos in the Mid-west.

Parent 1: Where’s your daughter going to college?

Me: Lehigh, in Pennsylvania.

Parent 1: Oh. Good for her.

Parent 2 to Parent 1: You probably haven’t heard of Lehigh, it is fairly small, but it is almost like a University.

Me: Smile and nod.

I was thinking, “thanks for that helpful description Parent 2! Maybe it will be a real University some day.” lol

If Parent 2 had been a Lafayette grad making a joke, I would have thought it was funny. This person just had no idea what they were talking about, and had no idea that that would sound rather insulting.
