I just took my GREs today and scored 760Q 590V and I assume between a 5.5 and 6 AWA. I was hoping for an M Eng in EE from Princeton / Columbia / Yale / Cornell. I also have a 3.73 GPA, great recs and research experience from NASA. What do you think my chances are? Should I retake the GREs hoping for a better Q?

The score is fine. 590 is the average at even the #1 engineering school. As for retaking it, that’s really up to you whether you want to spend the $150, but I believe 760 is on the low side for the schools you mention.

I figured it would be fine for an M. Eng. Will it really affect my chances. I thought that once you were above a certain score it didn’t really matter?

I took my GRE’s last week and got 770Q and 570V and I am expecting lower than you for the writing. My GPA is 3.72 and I also did an internship at NASA, I am a MechE though. I have no intentions of retaking the GRE unless I absolutely bombed the writing section, which is possible…my prompts sucked but o well. Anyways my point is that there probably is not point to retaking the test. The rest of your application seems solid. I dont really see a point in retaking the test in order to go from a 760 to a 780 or something, doesnt seem like that big of deal.

I think b oth of you have reasonable scores, especially for masters candidates. Everything else seems in order, I doubt this would be a real deciding issue.
