Just toured Georgia Tech. Ask me anything!

This weekend I spent 2 full days at the campus with a friend and learned a lot about the school. If you aren't able to visit but you have questions about life at the school, I can tell you what I thought at a glance.

1)Girls!?
2)Food?
3)Dorms?
4)Campus Safety?
5)Student body/Faculty Friendliness?
6)Greenery?
7)Transport?
8)Observed Average Student Stress?

1) You’d be surprised. On campus, I didn’t even notice the 60/40 guy-to-girl ratio. I heard it’s because the tech-ier nerdy guys just stay in their dorms so you don’t see them very outside much. Buy yeah, southern girls on average are much prettier than, say, Boston girls.

2) I didn’t have any food on campus, but most people seemed to have meal plans with either their greek house chef or the school’s buffet-style mess hall. I heard both were pretty good. There are plenty of nice places to eat in Atlanta too.

3) I saw one apartment-style dorm for upper classmen and it was average on the inside. Didn’t get to see much else. I spent most of my time in greek housing, which ranged from ■■■■■■ to spectacular.

4) I was told the police do a very good job around campus. It felt very safe and separate from the rest of Atlanta. Few hobos too. Obviously you still have to take precaution in a city.

5) The students that I met were exceptionally friendly and nice! They were all people involved in greek life. I was surprised with how not tech-y and nerdy everybody was on average. Lots of very normal people.

6) Not much really. The newer side of campus with the olympic pool has some grass and trees. It’s not and ugly campus though. There are trees and good-looking red brick buildings.

7) There are shuttles that run frequently all around campus but you can walk to any part of campus in less than 10-15 minutes. Some people had bikes not many. Also, a lot of the kids who live near georgia had cars.

8) The students seemed pretty chill, and I met a lot of engineering majors. They told me as long as you take academics seriously you’re not going to die. Obviously it’s notoriously more difficult at GTech, but the kids on average all said that students are hard-working and focused. It’s probably different around midterms idk

My mom dragged me to a tour at Georgia Tech when we were on a big trip to colleges…i didn’t want to even visit but after that day, Tech is in maybe my top 5 or 6 schools (not the very top…but I’d be happy to be admitted there).

I was surprised by how beautiful the campus is…and I liked that its in a big city. Other than that, I’m a girl but I didn’t notice that it was mostly guys…it just felt comfortable…

visited last year over spring break. thought the campus was beautiful and pleasantly surprised at all the trees and green areas! very interesting mix of buildings. great atmosphere: everyone seemed friendly. groups of college students hanging out together. hope to be accepted - definitely one of my top choices - majoring in comp sci.

I am a parent from Georgia with one 4th year student and one that will hopefully be a freshman fall 2015. My and my student’s observations:

1)Girls!? There are lots of very attractive girls! Especially in the sororities.
2)Food? Campus dining is average
3)Dorms? Very clean and adequate, but I have certainly seen some new dorms at other schools that are very impressive. After freshman year lots of apartments on campus are available.
4)Campus Safety?
5)Student body/Faculty Friendliness?
6)Greenery?
7)Transport?
8)Observed Average Student Stress?

I am a parent from Georgia with one 4th year student and one that will hopefully be a freshman fall 2015. My and my student’s observations:

1)Girls!? There are lots of very attractive girls! Especially in the sororities.

2)Food? Campus dining is average. Lots of great restaurants within walking distance of campus in Midtown. They are not restaurants that just cater to students. Midtown is a destination for people from all around Atlanta.

3)Dorms? Very clean and adequate, but I have certainly seen some new dorms at other schools that are very impressive. After freshman year a varity of apartments on campus are available.
.
4)Campus Safety? Police everywhere, in cars, on foot, on bikes and Segways. Pull station alarms and cameras all over campus. Definitely need to be observant and careful in some areas off campus.

5)Student body/Faculty Friendliness? We have always had good experiences with students when visiting. My student has made a wide variety of friends and has a very active social life with other students. They are definitely not always studying! There has been some concerns about faculty approachability.

6)Greenery? Campus is like an oasis in the city. Lots of trees, several large grassy areas and beautiful landscaping, esp. in the spring. Atlanta high-rises frame your view in the background. Very attractive environment for being an urban campus.

7)Transport? Comprehensive bus and trolley system. Two MARTA stations with in walking and campus bus system to travel to airport and other areas of Atlanta.

8)Observed Average Student Stress? Academics are definitely difficult but the students still have fun. An example: <a href=“Shake It Off Georgia Tech - YouTube”>Shake It Off Georgia Tech - YouTube;
