thanks. anyone else?

Pretty much agree with Beef; URM + Female + Engineering = Good Combo

I agree as well. As an URM female engineer I'd actually say your chances are pretty good at most of the places, but I'd say that nothing is for sure.

You sound kind of like me only I'm into computer science and my stats are a lil different http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/438641-web-design-hook.html

It would be awesome if we both ended up at Carnegie Mellon. I'm not so sure how much urm status helps, but it certainly can't hurt. Good Luck!

in at njit, rutgers, stevens.

probably in at villanova and bu.

the rest are reaches though.

good luck!

can anyone elaborate on my chances at Hopkins and Northwestern? By far those are my top two choices....

I would say 50/50 (SAT is low your right.. but ur ECs seem REALLY GOOD).. recommendations seem good as well.. but i hope you also got a teacher.. they wanna know how u preform at school as well.. if you have good essays id say that could bumb u up to pretty good chance for both northwestern and hopkins! good luck!

I'd say Hopkins and Northwestern are both high match/low reach

what you have in your favor:
-URM+female+engineering (don't take this the wrong way, but you're pretty much the best non-sport/non-legacy/non-money combination possible. college reps should be mobbing in front of your house every morning)

-pretty strong ECs for a science/engineering type, although they're a bit concentrated and typical for your better schools (mellon/penn/NW/hopkins)

-female+URM+engineering

what goes against you here:

-standardized testing is a little weak for NW/hopkins

basically I think you've got an extremely solid, if not downright good, chance at your top two. I've been told that Northwestern is actively seeking engineers these days, and you've got the demographic profile that schools really really want. Even so, your SATs might present some issues at a place this competitive.

Don't underestimate the power of your rec from the Cornell mentor. If someone at a highly regarded institution can attest to your engineering potential, then frankly (in conjunction with your ECs and URM/female) you might be a shoo-in for every place on your list

Thanks Sectumsempra for the comprehensive post. Anyone else?

what more do you honestly want?

I dont know. I guess I just have application jitters. Thanks everyone

i understand how you feel. try to relax because all chance threads do is either
give you a false sense of security
or make you really nervous and insecure

Your chances rest on your ECs and your recommendation. Your SAT and SAT IIs will not be a deciding factor in acceptance. Good luck!

"Your SAT and SAT IIs will not be a deciding factor in acceptance."

not necessarily....
