Just wondering...Will two B's in junior year hurt you?

Yeah...^ what the title says...for the admission to Harvard....

(Considering that both are the most rigorous classes in the school)

(Also, will it make a difference if the first semester you get those B's but second semester you bring it up to A's?)

(One more... Will you be able to retake the class at other places and cover the grades?)

Sincerely need help, thank you guys...

If your final grades in two classes are Bs, that will hurt you, since other students are taking those classes and, I assume, getting As. If you’re not excelling in the academics compared to the students at your high school, why do you think you’d be likely to excel at Harvard? (Or do well enough in classes to excel at extracurriculars or what have you.) Or, to put it another way, is there a reason the Bs don’t reflect your real abilities?

And probably not worth it. It would seem to me, then, that you’d rather cover some moderate-but-not-extreme blemishes on your transcript rather than go and take different classes that you haven’t taken and passed before. I did get a B in an AP science my junior year. So then I moved on and went to take other APs, since those taught me more than retaking that B class for perfection.

One or two or three Bs, heck 4 or 5, won’t keep you out of H. It depends on the whole package. Generally, I think that as long as you are in the top 5%-- and for some 10%-- of your class, your fate will not hinge on a B or two. The fact that you improved the grade second semester is a good sign. If you are really worried about it, you should try to get your counselor to write something like this on the counselor evaluation: “Jimmy earned a B in XX, and then improved the second semester to an A. It should be noted that this course is one of the most demanding our school offers.” I would not waste my time retaking the course… your time would be better spent sharpening your essays.

thank you :D

Not at all! I know someone who got into Harvard as 2015 with 4 B’s. She’s even from a really competitive high school. :)
