It's going to be randomized. You can't garuntee it. Don't worry. Going to another random dorm will be better :]. You'll have fun regardless and meet more people. You and your friend can pool in people you meet afterward during your freshman year.

Hi I have a question regarding housing.
I understand that there are/were deadlines to apply for housing...but is it too late to apply for a dorm instead of commuting (for a freshman)?
(Sorry if this has been asked before)

Hello! It is I again! I am full of sorrow to bother you, but I was curious about financial aid for international students who are only studying abroad for a year. How does this work for us? If jas0n can answer this as well, it would be helpful as I know he comes into this forum. I thank you very much!

There are deadlines to apply. Now i don't know if it is too late to apply, but what happens is that you can still apply, you just are not guaranteed the housing that you would have been guaranteed if you had turned the form in on time. So you may get lucky and get housing or you may not, but the guarantee that they had in place won't be able to be held in this situation if you didn't turn the papers in on time. Your housing packet should say when you should have turned the papers in.

I am pretty sure that you will have to apply first to get a student visa to come here to the states. from there they will give you a temporary social security number which you will then need to apply for financial aid over here at UCI. Now your fees will be much higher than a student who lives in California, but that is because you are not a resident. Now if there is a program which allows you to transfer between your college and UCI, then you will have to go through that. Financial aid will probably be awarded from UCI, but nothing from federal or cal grants, since you are not a citizen. I think that the only financial aid that you may receive is from you own college where you will be regularly attending.

I have a quick question, do I register for classes during orientation?

BerriEri:

as far as i know, and this is from my past experience, no you dont register for classes at orientation. however a few people have sent me some links and stuff that i need to follow up on to make sure either way, since they are saying apparently that you can sign up for classes. this is contrary to the fact that all freshman have assigned random registration windows. So until this matter can be put to rest for sure, i am going to say no you dont, but if i find out otherwise, i shall let you all know.

~Kadya

Looks like you will register for classes during Orientation. Take a look at these links:

quick (but registration unrelated) question: what are some of the basic classes we can get out of the way @ a local community college over the summer? and if we take those classes @ CCs, are the credits transferable to UCI?

i looked up my enrollment window on webreg...it says it opens on " SEP 11,'07 at 06:45pm "

ISNT THAT LIKE REALLY LATE?!

dawn1029:

check this site: assist.org. it tells all the classes which are transferrable between the UC and the CC. grades dont transfer only the units and what requirements they finish.

eonxblue:

that is kind of late, but i really dont know when the first window opens for freshman, so i cant tell you for sure. I think that if i remember right, my registration window was in the third weeks of august, roughly. They may have pushed the registration window back for freshmen, not really sure, but this is really done randomly. So where you are assigned right now is completely random, however after the first quarter it is based on the number of units completed.

I Am Disheartened

Do you know how rigorous the biochemistry and molecular biology program is, especially in preparing me premed-wise? From the looks of the course requirements, it seems that I can place elective emphasis on chemistry and more general biology, which I'd like to do (I really like the idea of the biochem major; molecular biology...not so much).

on the UCI spop website: "All new freshmen are required to attend summer orientation**. Orientation includes academic advising, class registration, and much more!"

aHAAA.. SPOP DOES indeed include class registration!!!! and youuuu (i forget.. either jas0n or kadya) said it didn't!

wow, dont be so ignorant, the registration window for freshman is in september ONLINE

I think it's more along the lines of them suggesting what classes to register for and mayhaps making a list for you. I'm not sure they actually register you.

Just a guess, though.

EDIT: a more direct answer

yea, me and jas0n both read that and are really confused as to what they are saying on that part. however we do know for sure that the freshmen window opens august-ish, and early september as well. i really dont think that you will be registering for classes when you go to orientation, whichever one that you may go to, because it wouldnt be really all that "fair" to the rest of the people who cant get it, however the first freshmen window is still pretty random.

what is the cut off points for UCI previous years??

parksunchang:

The cut off is not publicized for UC Irvine.
