WHAT NOWWWW? just playing

Keep in mind that each college ******* is written by different people, so actual letter grades are subjective. I don't trust the letter grades themselves, but the advice that comes along side them.
UCI got an A- despite virtually flawless reviews of its saftey, and Irvine being one of the safest places in the nation. A-? It should have at least gotten an A.

Pengsta:

The Asian fraternities considered the most "hardcore" would be Lambda Theta Delta and Pi Alpha Phi at UCI. The biggest community service one would be Alpha Phi Omega. It is also the biggest fraternity in the nation. If you have any questions about Alpha Phi Omega, the original poster and I can surely answer your questions.

1)The accounting minor at UCI is very competitive. I know many who applied and got rejected. This is mainly due to the number of students allowed to hold the minor. A cumalitive GPA of 3.5 would be needed to look competitive enough as an applicant for the minor. In addition, engineers need extra clearance from counselors before taking on the minor. The business/internship opportunities are good at UCI. I can't say they are the best since I don't know how it is at other schools. However, the big four accounting firms recruit at UCI. There are also a LOT of companies around UCI. I've seen the accounting firms, and I have a friend working at Morgan Stanley. You're in the middle of Orange County. I don't know if it would be hard to find internship opportunities =].
2)There is definitely a lot of opportunities for research in chemistry. Our chem department is pretty well funded especially with the names of Frederick Reines and Sherwood Rowland plastered on our buildings =D. Google their names.

Usually, counselors will push you towards taking the class you placed into. However, I've seen people taking lower level classes in many subjects. I really don't know how it would be for Spanish though. If anything, the chem one would be easy to manipulate. Fail the chem one and go to chem 1P (i do NOT recommend this class) or pass the chem test and start in chem1A.

but didn't kadya place out of chem1A? so how would u go about getting the right score to get out of the workload class but not past the 1st one?

sports61kh:

The only ways to pass chem 1A are passing the AP chem exam with a 4 or 5 or passing an class equivalent to chem1a at a community college. Kadya passed the AP exam.

Oh yeah, the AP tests...

Got a 3 on the English Language AP, as I understand it, that meets my analytical writing exam. I also got a 4 on my US History...
Not sure what that does though.

Here's a useful link for understanding how an AP test helps you at UCI.

Have a Happy New Year.

Wow jas0n, you're amazing. Everyone else who answers questions too. Thanks for all the info!
Happy New Year! :D

yes jas0n is quite amazing...lol....

to tenacious.sol, did you still want me to answer your q? or did you find your answer through jas0n?

so to set it straight, even if u got like 100% on the chem placement test, you'll always end up taking chem1A? (assuming no AP/CC credits)

You can be placed into chem h2a (honors gen chem).

It's equivalent to chem 1a but is simply a more challenging course.

Happy New Years haha. I was finishing up a small scholarship application I submitted at 11:59 pm yikes.

Thank you for the response Jas0n. Kadya if you still want to answer the question just to add more information please do so or if Jason's answer is pretty good you don't have to. More information is always good though :)

This chemistry placement test discussion triggered another question out of me. My high school's chemistry department is a joke. The hardest thing we learned was seriously Le Chatelier's Principle for inorganic...soo my background is pretty weak unless you want to talk to me ONLY on moles and avogadro's number lol.

Is there a way I can prepare for the placement test so I can directly go onto the General Chem series? How bad is Chem 1P if I hypothetically fail the placement test?

Sorry for the questions, but you are guys are way too helpful haha

correct, sports61kh
althought i doubt you will get a 100. because if you do i think they might push you up, but i have never heard of this and i highly doubt it. so i am going to stick with just passing it gets you into chem1A and not passing it means you take chem1P.
I suggest you all pass it, because the teacher for chem1p sucks period. Even if the class is easy, he is the worst teacher anyone can have, and everyone who says he is great on ratemyprofessor, are all lying. truthfully i can tell you that no one i know who took him, has ever liked him. just the people that get A's. (Yes, im bitter. he cost me a gradepoint, and the A since he cant teach and doesnt know how to make tests that are supposed to be finishable in 2 hours, on material covered by what he said would be on the final in chem1B. If you want to know the teacher's name, then msg me on AIM. I am not going to write it here)

HAPPY NEW YEARS TO ALL

tenacious.sol

props on the app submission. i will look into the question what u asked before and see what i can to add to jas0n. we are both roommates, so we will discuss it later probably and add on or something.

regarding this Chem question placement question. The best way to study for it, just go to the testing webiste and cover what they say to cover for it. if you want to, go and get a practice SAT II chem ap book, and try doing stuff out of there on the topics they said will be on the test. it is a pretty simple and straightforward test. i believe a big part of it is moles and Avogadro's number, but i dont know for sure since i passed out of chem1A with a 6 on the AP Chem test. let me ask a few friends who have taken it already and add another post in specific regards to it.

Don't worry about the questions guys. this site and forum are the exact reason why they were created. You ask, and we can share, or someone else can. always good to be informed and one step ahead of everyone else. So if you have a question, post it and ask away.
*plus it gives us something to do when we are digesting all this good holiday food :D *

~Kadya

i don't know if u guys can answer this, but generally are the ppl who have to take chem1P the ones who have not taken AP chem? b/c the HS's say that AP chem is equivalent to 1st yr college chem sequence

You guys are awesome. I almost want to be rejected by ucla now to come over to uci lol

If you need to study for the placement exam, you wont do well in chem 1a :</p>

@sports61kh: if you took honors chem or normal college prep chem, i would not recommend 1p for you. I would say that a good student would be able to take chem 1a without having any chem previously.

uci is the greatest college on earth!

@shoefactory: so you're saying that only 1 yr of basic/honors (not AP) chem in HS is sufficient? and sometimes no prior exposure to chem?
