Hey guys! With Kaplan acceptance emails sent out this morning, I was hoping we could start a thread to get to know each other before school starts. Also, for those who have completed the program, is there anything you wish you had known beforehand? I've heard mixed things about the workload so any advice would be appreciated. Thanks and I'm looking forward to meeting you all :)

Don’t be a whiny ***** like half the kids my year- bear in mind that you don’t actually realize what you have is so good. It is special.

Don’t get me wrong- I’m extremely excited (and honored) to have been chosen! I read some of your posts in other Kaplan related threads and it sounds amazing.

I didn’t get you wrong! I’m glad you’re excited! My advice is to stay that way! Remember its a privilege, not an entitlement!

I will meet you at some point in the fall due to the program, so happy sailing till then!

Oops my mistake! Do alums typically stay involved with the program?

Not really- I’m special.

Hi!!!
Im an admitted student to Kaplan 10-11 as well.
Your post finally made me to sign up for college confidential after years of wandering…

I just have a quick question for you…
are you planning on reading the books/plays on the reading list?
I know it’s not mentioned as summer readings, but as I only know a very few of them, I am worried…

You will read them in class. You do not need to read any but the summer reading (if there is any) in the summer.

Hi there!!

Like arbiter said we don’t have to read anything over the summer, so I would relax. During high school I read Twelfth Night and a part of Dante’s Divine Comedy (which we’ll read parts of), and neither were challenging. As much as I appreciate Shakespeare, reading his plays isn’t always my cup of tea, so if I could read Twelfth Night without any trouble I don’t think you’d have to worry

I also looked up a few (The Birds, The Importance of Being Earnest, etc) on Amazon and they’re pretty short and shouldn’t be hard to finish during the school year.

If you’re a member of the NU '14 facebook group, there’s a Kaplan thread! Feel free to say hi; some former students have offered to answer questions too. But arbiter gives really good responses as well!
