Which is a better SAT prep??
Kaplan or Karen Dillard??

Background: this will be my 4th time taking it, my highest being 1600 but I never studied for it ever... Unless you count the previous times I've taken it + PSAT's as practice...
My parents really want me to take a prep course so I can take the test for the last time (October - I'm a senior)

I’m actually enrolled at KD. KD is great if you take full advantage of their resources and study additionally by yourself as well. Your scores won’t sky rocket by just attending a couple of classes for example. Since you are short on time and a senior, I wouldn’t recommend KD. KD is more of a “gradual” process and the more times you take the classes and are exposed to the material, the better chance you will have of increasing your score. If you were a sophomore or rising junior, KD would be a great option. My advice to you, (assuming you live in North Texas) is to take the Testmasterz SAT score. First of all, it’s cheaper even though it still is pretty pricey. They have a 300+ score improvement guarantee. Here’s the link Good luck with everything!
Thanks for the reply. I would definitely study on my own and also go to all of the classes, I just don’t want to make the mistake of choosing a class that will do more harm than good (not sure how that would happen but still) thanks for the link! I will check that out today, thanks!

It will definitely do you more good than harm, but in my opinion, for a person short on time, Testmasterz is the best option! (: What portion do you score your lowest on?

I looked at the end dates and KD’s program for 12th graders ends in late August, ugh so confusing not sure which to pick… And is can’t remember but math I believe, I actually made lower last time than my second time taking it.

KD again is great if its long term, but for a short term prep course, you should take TestMasterz.Especially since you’re a senior. I know a friend who went there, and she told me that they have this one policy at Testmasterz where if your score doesn’t improve they will let you take the WHOLE course again free of charge.

Based on personal experience, my score in KD didn’t sky rocket by taking a single set of classes. I took about 2 sets of classes for 2 years and consistently went to workshops. That’s when I started to see results. My prep was “long term”. If you only have 1-2 months to study, I wouldn’t recommend going to KD, but that’s just my personal opinion.

The score increase is guaranteed and if you’re a “smart” student and are devoting all your time into it, it shouldn’t be a problem(: KD for seniors is $999. whereas Testmasterz is $800. There’s a 100 dollar difference. I sound like I’m marketing or something, but seriously I can’t emphasize how much I think Testmasterz is your better option lol. If there was one thing, I personally over the years dislike about KD, it is probably their approach to the essay section. Everything else is great, but I never saw my scores significantly rise within a month at KD, it tooks months of gradual effort after going to multiple workshops. Their approach to the “vocabulary” lab is also more of a long term thing so I would suggest Direct Hits for studying the vocabulary. Most people choose that one.

I guess the best thing you can do is try to find out other peoples’ opinions as well. Try searching up archive questions about KD on college confidential.

I’ve actually decided to go with test masters - this is for on-site (I mean hey, any class is better than no class and I’m sure both of those classes will be good at least a little bit) As for extra books, I’ve heard a lot about Barron’s and I have the college board BB but never looked at it but received it a couple years ago… Can an SAT book be outdated??

I think the best book would be the Official SAT guide. I don’t know anyone who took the online Testmasters class but I do know people who attended the “Classroom” class and they really liked it. Everyone says - things about kaplan lol so i wouldn’t go with it.

I totally understand lol, I’d feel the same way. Honestly, I’d personally go with the classroom course. After all its only a $50 dollar difference according to the website. But thats just my personal preference considering I’m horrible with online classes…
