Kappa Delta at Vanderbilt? please tell me about them!

hi i was wondering how the kappa deltas are at vandy? i would be a legacy, and i am not sure what kind of girls they draw.

My suggestion is to wait & see for yourself. If you really can't wait to find out, try searching for KD/Vandy chapter info on the web. I can assure you that YOUR impression of the sorority is more important than some random stranger's thoughts.

I just googled Kappa Delta Vanderbilt & it took me right to the chapter's own website. Try it!

For potential students who are interested in the characterizations of sorority chapters, I strongly suggest you keep in mind that each chapter has around 150 members once recruitment is complete (I believe the exception is Delta Gamma which is a relatively new chapter that continues to grow each year). I doubt that there are very many potential sorority members who have ever been that involved with such a large group of women. My point is that stereotypes are difficult to apply to such large groups. I second kelsmom comment that you should see for yourself. I'm not familiar with the rules for all houses, but I know that most will ask you back initially if you are a legacy.

hey lulu, nice to see another girl from the mobtown coming.

KD is good, has historically been just below the tops of theta, tri delt, and maybe kappa but is definitely working its way up. good looking fun girls for the most part.

haha where do you go to school? i'm only a junior, but i'm applying EDI next year. ive toured a lot and decided that this is the place for me!

This isn't going to give you the answers I suspect you are looking for, but I must commend 2VU0609. You will find girls who fit ALL "molds" in all 10 chapters - you might not, for one "reason" or another "see" let alone meet those girls during recruitment (use your imagination), but that certainly doesn't mean they don't exist. Also remember that what you see or HEAR from the outside perspective are rumors and stereotypes - tent talk and especially what you will read on forums about specific chapters must be taken with a grain of salt, from the "top tier" all the way down to the "bottom tier" chapters.

Kelsmom is ABSOLUTELY right: your perspective is the only opinion that matters.

Also: I'm pretty sure 2VU0609 is right about the legacy treatment; only rarely will a legacy not receive an invite back to philanthropy (2nd) round - usually that occurs by mistake.

lulu i go to vandy now and am in a better fraternity on campus but have a good number of friends from mobile. don't worry about the people trying to trick you about sororities. stereotypes usually do play out and some clearly have better looking and more fun girls than other. kd is good.

haha thanks...btw i go to UMS

KD is a decent sorority and will generally be classified alongside pi phi and chi o, right after Kappa, Theta and Tri-Delt

Lulumobile I was a KD at Vanderbilt a long time ago =) and have watched the sorority’s reputation wax and wane over the years. Depending on the pledge classes, some years the girls have been solid, other years they have been party girls, and many variations in between. You will have to decide for yourself whether the girls there now are those you fit in with. My daughter will be a freshman next year and I am not pushing her in any way to become a KD…she is free to make her own choices and may not even rush.

Lulu,

I agree with all the other posters who are telling you to form your own opinion. The other important thing is to keep an open mind and try to get to know girls other places–in other words, don’t have your heart set on being a KD just because you’re a legacy. One of my best friends was a KD legacy who got cut this year. She was heartbroken. She did go on to pledge elsewhere and is perfectly happy. personally, I think she was KD’s loss!

Kappa Delta defines a legacy as a one whose sister, mother, grandmother (or adoptive, half sister or step-relatives of the above if a close relationship) is currently (or has passed away) a Kappa Delta in good standing.

Due to the number of Kappa Delta legacies that participate in recruitment on some campuses, Kappa Delta chapters cannot promise an invitation to membership to all legacies as much as we would like to. A legacy must meet the membership requirements and standards established by each chapter on her own merit. On some campuses, due to the large number of women participating in recruitment and the limited number of invitations the Panhellenic affords a chapter, invitations to the first invitational round of recruitment may not be possible for all legacies. However, where Panhellenic rules and conditions allow, Kappa Delta does extend the courtesy of an invitation to the first invitational recruitment event for each legacy in order to ensure that each legacy is given due consideration for membership in light of her special relationship to Kappa Delta.
