Keep current job or apply to Americorps VISTA after college?

I am trying to make a decision between keeping my current job and doing the 1 year commitment with Americorps VISTA. If I was still in my early 20s then it wouldn't be a huge issue. However I am 29 years old, just graduated from college and I am in my 6th month working at a community college. The pay is decent, there is job security and I can apply for a second job or even a better job that closely matches my communications degree.

With vista, I like that I can help out the local community and possibly receive an education award to help pay for student loans. But I also notice that it might be restrictive for someone who is really seeking financial stability.

If you participated in Americorps (after graduation), what were the major pros & cons?

Were you able to find a permanent job afterwards?

Is the VISTA salary + the education award more than what you are making working?

I would offer this: by working at a community college, you are helping the community right now.

I did VISTA for a year in an unrelated job to my career path of choice. VISTA did not contribute to me getting the job that I ultimately wanted (and the job I knew I wanted at the time).
