Keeping campuses safer-tips to pass along to your child from UVA's Vice president

A friend of mine who has a daughter at UVA sent me a copy of a letter from UVA's Vice President and Chief Student Affairs Officer. It has many safety guidelines from that office and the Charlottesville police regarding how to stay safer on ANY campus.

I am posting it out in case any of you who wish to re-remind your child (son or daughter) about campus safety. Some of you may not be familiar with the story of Morgan Harrington. Morgan was a young 20 year old student from Virginia Tech who was abducted after a concert at the University of Virginia 3 months ago, murdered, and whose remains were tragically found right outside the UVA campus last week. In the words of Patricia Lampkin, UVA's VPSA,

"One way to honor Morgan Harrington's life is to become an advocate for safety on college campuses, here and elsewhere. Please feel free to share this message with your friends at colleges and universities around the country."

I know we all routinely stress safety with our kids, but it wouldn't hurt to do it again. There are many good points in the letter I believe that could help students everywhere to be more safe.

A very sad, but good, reminder for all of us. Thank you for posting this.
