I’m in Senior year and in the midst of the college application process. I am applying to 17 colleges and starting to feel overwhelmed with how much I need to keep track of, meet key deadlines and make sure I’ve fulfilled some of the unique application requirements for each school. Some are UC’s so the application is somewhat streamlined but a lot of my college choices have their own unique deadlines and requirements. Does anyone else have this problem? Any tips or things I should be doing/using to keep on top of it all? Any feedback or guidance is appreciated! Thanks!
I’m applying to 10 schools and I feel the pain. I made a spreadsheet of all my colleges and their info so I can keep track of it all. The spreadsheet includes the college, their price, approximate scholarship money, deadlines, needed documents, location, enrollment, odds of acceptance, and more. It helps a lot!
We had a spreadsheet for deadlines, scores sent, transcripts sent, payments sent, etc.
And, DS had his own spreadsheet for essays written and reviewed that included info about essay topic overlaps.
We used Google Docs so that they could be shared and updated.
Yup, spreadsheet is the way to go. Good opportunity to learn something like Excel if you haven’t used it before. We tracked a lot of stuff - schools and deadlines for applications, questions for supplements, status of essays (draft? done?), FA deadlines, recommendation and transcript status, id to log into portal and password, differences in what to send and how to send FA info, deadlines for the profile. Then a results tab that included financial analysis of each school (what is the cost for next year – including travel differences? How much is it expected to go up each year – so projected out for four years? What scholarships or need based aid was offered, and how might we expect that to play out for the next four years? What savings did we have, and how did we expect to spend that each year?)
