Kelley Direct Admission

So I applied for direct admit to Kelley School of Business, but today when I received my acceptance letter to IU, it stated that I was University Div Pre-Business. From what I’ve seen, this means that I’m not a direct admit to Kelley. Here, I am a little confused, because I thought that if you met all the requirements for direct admit, you get accepted. I currently have:

  • 3.93 weighted on a 4.0 scale
  • 34 ACT
  • Many Honors & AP classes
  • National honor society, Debate, Paid job, etc.

Am I wrong about Kelley doing automatic direct admit or do I have to wait for a separate acceptance letter?

Kelley will let you know within three weeks of your acceptance to the University. It’s a separate communication.

Yeah. Same situation here. Website says 4-6 weeks you’ll find out. But the petition deadline is sooner Than that. And they only say yes, not no which makes zero sense. Really confusing.

My son is facing the same, he got the acceptance letter from IU, how do we check whether he is directly admitted or not? Someone was mentioning that it will take 4 - 6 weeks following admission to IU. when we checked the status online it’s saying University div pre business. His score is 33 act and 3.94 weighted GPA. Should we wait to hear from Kelley or apply for Petition?

if you meet the standard for direct admit, you/your kid will receive an email followed by a letter from Kelley about your admission separately. My D’s IU admit package also said pre-business, and then the Kelley admit information came a few weeks later. I will add that her portal on IU still says she is admitted as pre-business, and she was accepted as direct admit a month ago. Hope that helps! I am sure you will all be hearing from Kelley soon.

Officially IU says it takes between four to six weeks after IU acceptance to get Kelly acceptance but oddly, it says that if you don’t get in there won’t be a rejection email. Net, net: after four weeks I would call admissions to confirm. My son got in to IU last week and is also waiting on Kelley.

@frozencustard It’s been over 3 weeks since my acceptance. Does this mean I’ve been rejected from Kelley?

@ghostrider214 they say 4-6 weeks My kid heard in three weeks, but it’s probably not an exact science. Do your grades and test scores justify the direct admission or will you have to petition?

My D submitted her application and materials in mid September. We heard back from both IU and then Kelley by the end of October…about 3 weeks in between as well. Perhaps it is taking a little longer for applications to be processed that were submitted closer to or at the November 1 deadline due to volume.

@frozencustard 3.85 weighted and a 1500 SAT, so based on what they say on the website, I assume that they justify direct admission

@ghostrider214, it seems as if it’s just a matter of time. Holiday may have impacted your timing.

I petitioned for Kelley about two weeks ago. Does anyone know how long after you sent in your petition it will take to here back about admission?

My son petitioned in early October and just got his response this week.

@jmencher

Ok for the update. We got the Kelly admission letter today. Dated 11/17. Sent 11/28. Via snail mail. No email and web portal not updated. Way to make us wait.

We did email the admissions counselor. Bottom line, if you meet the gpa and score criteria acceptance is automatic. So don’t fret. It’s coming.

Daughter applied early Oct ly. Received IU acceptance within 2 weeks mid Oct, Hutton announcement by end of Oct and Kelley 1st week In Nov.

@vcmaster I’m curious if you have heard back about Kelley direct yet, since my child is waiting too,

@wheatonmom if it helps, my child meets the DA criteria and was accepted 11/21 and received a Dean’s Scholarship…but so far still waiting for a Kelley DA notice.

@Meant2B Thanks! I’d like to plan a trip out there to visit, but I won’t until an official Kelley acceptance arrives. I imagine they must have been swamped with applications just before the early action closing period. However, you would think they could get these letters out if the criteria for acceptance is so cut and dry.

@wheatonmom I do agree! We are also trying to plan visits for the final 2-3 schools in contention on our list, but want all direct admit and scholarship information before doing so! Fingers crossed we receive DA news this week!
