@Meant2B You might want to wait to visit IU if your kid is a DA. Kelley has a direct admit day that is pretty cool around March every year. They will send out a bunch of info about it when it gets closer.
Thanks @iubaccounting! Will keep that in mind for sure. March is so far away! I know Kelley is a top contender though, so really need to give it the full review!!
@iubaccounting I just googled direct admit day Kelley and it appears that they are scheduled for the first 2 weekends in February. I’m hoping this is the same event as you mentioned.
Yes this is the same thing! You’ll get an invite to it with the Kelley email acceptance.
@wheatonmom is right. Here’s a link: https://kelley.iu.edu/programs/undergrad/events/direct-admit-day/index.cshtml
Thanks @wheatonmom and @iubaccounting!
The hotel on campus is already sold out. We reserved another hotel close by for the first weekend, but we’ll fly home in enough time for Super Bowl Sunday. I wouldn’t wait to reserve.
Thanks @frozencustard, that’s unfortunate as we wouldn’t even have known the event was taking place yet if not for this CC board, still waiting for the official DA notice. Never had a chance at the on campus hotel and I do think staying there provides the best vibe of campus. Bummed
You’re welcome. I think rooms could open up at the school’s hotel, Biddle Hotel, as some who reserved rooms decide to attend other schools. We booked the Hyatt which is close to campus, but we’ll check on the Biddle’s availability periodically. In any case, it makes sense to reserve something now.
We are also going to Kelley admit weekend with our D Super Bowl weekend and are booked at Hyatt Place on Kirkwood. @frozencustard, if you are staying at the same place, I think this will be a fun location as its full of restaurants and shops and near campus. I think you are correct that rooms may open up as people receive other admissions and start making decisions.
Here is a link to an article about Kelly admit days you might enjoy if you haven’t seen it already.

@blackbird881 Yup, that’s the one. Quite honestly, if we wind up making that trip, we’ll probably stick with that hotel. The price is great even for the nicer rooms.
Great article. Everyone who is going should read it. Poets & Quants also rated Kelley as the #6 undergraduate business school in the country.
@frozencustard , @blackbird881 , @Meant2B Are any of your children waiting on Maryland or Wisconsin for acceptances?
@wheatonmom nope (great schools though, my oldest applied to both–didn’t end up at either)
@wheatonmom we are waiting on EA Wisconsin and two others.
oops… that was for @Meant2B!
@blackbird881 Does your child have a preference for Kelley over Wisconsin? My daughter seems to Wisco more even though she hasn’t visited either yet.
I like that Hyatt place. Make sure you hit up crazy horse and Irish lion across the street. Those are old school (1980s) IU bars.
@wheatonmom I clearly cant figure out who I am answering (ha)…my husband is alumni of Wisconsin and many other family members. We live in an adjoining state so we have spent a lot of time there, including a two day visit in October. I think in my D’s heart of hearts, she would love to be admitted there and would likely choose it. It is tough to get in from our state, as we have reciprocity and they have been taking less kids from our state in recent years as interest has increased from OOS kids who are full pay.
I guess my answer is, she likes Wisconsin A LOT, but some of this might be due to familiarity and distance from home. IU is gorgeous, pleasant small city, really impressive B school which she is honored to be admitted to, great school spirit, in her midwestern comfort zone. She did get some merit dollars there which helps. I think would happily choose IU, especially if Wisconsin isn’t an option.
Definitely visit both places if you can, or will you wait till after you have acceptances?
@yourmomma will check those out! thanks for the recommendations!
@blackbird881 Thanks for your reply. We are from New England, so I haven’t been in any rush to fly out to either school before an acceptance. I believe she will be admitted to Kelley since she has been admitted to the honors program, but I refuse to book a hotel or purchase plane tickets until the official email arrives.
I think Wisconsin has been elevated through conversations with others that have visited, a college presentation at her high school and some very general research on the computer. I think Kelley, a more affordable option for us and a great school hasn’t excited her as much as Wisconsin or even Maryland. Admitted day at Kelley could be a game changer by helping her shift her opinion.
My daughter has noticed from our high school naviance that Wisconsin attracts a stronger student body than Indiana university. IU has accepted just about everyone that has applied from our school and for some reason that bothers her a bit.
We will be eagerly awaiting Wisconsin’s notification and the response from Kelley;)
@wheatonmom that is sound reasoning, but you could make a fully cancellable reservation at a hotel in Bloomington for one of the weekends, just in case? ;~) I imagine your D will be hearing very soon about Kelley. if she meets the minimum numbers (plus in for Honors!), its coming! You are welcome to PM if you want to discuss or ask any questions about Wisconsin etc. I do know quite bit about that school. I hope you hear soon!
