Kelley Living Learning Center

Hi, I have done quite a bit of research on the KLLC and think it is a great opportunity to network starting in freshman year. I have not committed to IU yet and am waiting on some other decisions. Priority consideration for the KLLC is by May 1, and the application opens tomorrow. Will the date of submission be a factor if I submit now vs. mid-April?

Nah re KLLC - my buddy submitted in late April and got into the KLLC

@DG did your friend like the KLLC? I have seen mixed reviews on here. Some seemed to find it helpful, others a bit too insular. My son is trying to decide whether to apply and we don’t have a lot of first hand info on it as we are OOS and not a lot of kids go to IU, let alone to Kelley. Any thoughts on tradeoffs would be appreciated.

I think any time a student has the opportunity to participate in a LC, it can be a good thing. However, some friends with kids at IU say that the KLLC can be too insular and recommend regular housing in order to develop a social circle outside of Kelley. This makes a lot of sense to me, given that Kelley enrollment is so large. They will not have any trouble eventually making friends within their major/school.

I will encourage my kid to apply to KLLC. However, this is not one that we are too hung up on, given the reason above. There are other schools that I feel differently about and have much stronger feelings about the benefits of the LCs there.

@Nonamefits - he thinks is ok…he doesn’t think is big deal at all really…

Do you know if you can apply to KLLC and also request a roommate? I realize both students would need to be accepted into the KLLC. I just didn’t know if they required random roommates.

Do you know if this was based on high-quality essays overpowering the date of submission?

Not sure re essays. He’s a good writer and student. He doesn’t think it’s especially selective.
