KLLC

Does anyone know what the KLLC application is like?

I think it was 3 short essays and an application. My son didn’t think it was bad.

Does your son by any chance happen to remember the questions. I’d like to get a head start of them if I can. Thanks

The Kelley School of Business is a place where students have the talent to succeed, the humility to grow and the tenacity to persevere. Please describe a single moment which your talent, humility or tenacity led to an unexpected outcome for you.

Identify a person you admire ( and to whom you are not related) and explain what you have learned from this person’s life.

Describe a issue you are passionate about, and explain why you are passionate about it.

I don’t know if they change them every year. But those were his questions, 150 - 200 words for each question. It wasn’t anything he stressed about. He did have a roommate picked out beforehand and they requested to be together first, KLLC 2nd and Northwest 3rd.

KLLC prospective students please be aware of the severe mold problem in Foster and McNutt and Teter dorms. KLLC is in McNutt this year. Please ask questions before signing into housing which needs to be done before anyway before submitting an LLC App. Please consider your health before special programming.
FYI KLLC is an enhancement program but will not hinder your KSB success if you opt in elsewhere.

I would assume that IU would want to fix this problem as soon as possible as Kelley is one of the biggest attractions to the school. I can’t imagine them knowingly letting students stay in the rooms next year if the problem still exists. Thank you for the information and help I think a lot of students would have been unaware of this if it wasn’t for you.

Seeing as the problem occurred in 2017 and 2018 I would encourage students to have those conversations about mold for 2019-20. There are currently many rooms uninhabitable despite multiple remediations. As a parent of a current student in those dorms I am very interested in what IU intends to do to protect future classes from this fiasco.

Time out. 80-90% of the rooms are clean with no mold. The measurements are all online. Unfortunately, the affected dorms are old (like haven’t been rehabed in 30 years). They needed to be re-done years ago. Hopefully, they’ll get in and put new hvac systems in place to combat the problem.

.@yourmomma…Not sure about your information.Measurements are NOT ALL online. Reports are missing or have been removed and not all rooms are even listed in all the impacted dorms although all have received testing except for rooms with mold in the 3 Teter buildings and now Ashton as well.
Those scores are an assurance of something, but perhaps not what you are implying or hoping. As matter of fact we cannot know for sure if the testing apparatus was placed right at the output of the air scrubber air purifier machines placed in the rooms or where those air spore samples were taken from. Unless videotape was taken of the process in each room. Talking to qualified certified mold remediation specialists not paid by IU and also consulting with the State of Indiana Health Dept. has revealed that accurate mold spore testing consists of testing the air in multiple locations in a room (inside the large deep dark upper old wooden cabinets in these rooms or under the beds would have been good) as well as physical swabbing of horizontal and vertical surfaces. IU elected to purchase well over 3,000 air purifiers and placed them in the dorm rooms. As a pre-requisite to testing they demanded that the students keep the units running on high speed 24/7, or no testing would be done. Industry standards suggest the air should be stagnant for a minimum of 12-24 hours prior to this testing. If you had access to the photos and testimonies that we have from fellow parents and students, as well as following the testing and reporting on rooms, you would realize that many rooms have had mold spore test results that continue to increase despite remediation and also there are rooms with low reports in the green zone where physically visible mold continues to grow on desks, shoes and under beds where students are living and sleeping. Also, those reports and charts you are seeing online have rooms missing. So the assertion that 80-90% of dorm rooms are safe is less than accurate as not all rooms are even listed yet. Air purifiers like these are designed for use in homes without a massive mold infestation and are not designed to be run on high 24/7. They do alter the mold spore count in the air and it depends where the testing apparatus is placed at time of testing. They do not remediate a room nor do they remove mold spores from surfaces, curtains, carpet or belongings in a room.

@ EVERYONE. The KLLC has the worst RAs on the planet, so take a second and think before you go there. Plus McNutt is far from everything and freshman year you really only have 2 kelley classes, the other halls are a hike.

This might be a little off-topic, but when exactly do you choose your housing? Is it when you enroll, or when you’re admitted?

Housing applications may be altered this year due to the widespread mold issues in so many freshman dorms. Freshman are required to live on campus. Typically registration consists of selecting a price tier from a selection of levels as well as a neighborhood. All the various neighborhoods on campus have a selection of some newer, partially renovated, mostly renovated or older un-renovated dorms. You do not get to pick the building. Due to the mold issue and the recent announcement of closure of some but not all mold impacted dorms for next year, the placement of LLC’s may change as well. You apply to those separately after applying for housing and each LLC has different deadlines, essays, etc. The KLLC is very competitive and typically has a waitlist.

It was just announced yesterday that two dorms are being closed next year to be renovated due to the mold issue. McNutt and Foster. So the KLLC won’t be located there next year.

I am speculating the KLLC will be relocated to the central neighborhood - Possibly Collins or Eigenmann.

It was announced that the KLLC will be located in Eigenmann Hall next year. Has AC, windows do not open. Is the building where the lounges were converted to bunked rooms to handle overflow housing at the start of this academic year for freshman that did not get regular dorm room assignments. Then became the lounge relocation space for students from the Foster and McNutt Quads needing to move out of their dorm rooms due to the mold situation which is ongoing. Nearest dining hall options are likely Woodlands in Southeast and Wright in Central. Good luck to those making decisions where to enroll next year!
