Is the 3.8 GPA required for direct admission into Kelley’s School of business, unweighted on a 4.0 scale or weighted? My school submits both unweighted and weighted gpa. I have a 3.55 unweighted gpa and a 3.72 weighted gpa and a 1470 New SAT. Please let me know my chances at Kelley School of business.
Thank you
IU takes into account the highest GPA your school sends them. As far as direct admission goes, you need at least a 3.8 AND a 30 ACT or 1360 new SAT. So if you want to apply for direct admission, you should have a good chance with petitioning since your GPA falls short. Hope this helps! I also am looking to apply for direct admit this fall!
Oh okay thank you!!
Does anyone know, if Kelley School of Business will increase its requirements by next year? Making it harder for direct admission?
@SUNDAE101 I have the same worry. I talked to someone who is a senior at Kelley. He said that there are rumors of increasing the DA requirement every year. However, they raised the requirements sometime in the past few years, and a 3.8 and 30 ACT are already very selective, so he doesn’t think they’ll raise it this fall. But if they do, you can always petition.
Yeah hopefully they don’t increase it. I really wanna get into this school!!
@SUNDAE101 me too! It’s my top choice so far. Michigan is my second, but getting DA to Ross is insanely hard. Plus, I think Kelley is a better fit for me. At this point, what happens happens, and we’all end up where we’re supposed to. Best of luck and maybe I’ll see you someday at Kelley!
Yeah! Good luck to you too!
Any more information on this? I know how competitive business schools are getting and won’t be surprised if they raise it. But hopefully not.
Apparently on the Kelley School of Business website it says that the direct admission criterias for the class of 2018 will be finalized by mid-August…hopefully they do not increase it…
Son will be freshman direct admit for Fall 2017 - and when we did the Kelley tour and info session last fall, they said the school is very likely to increase the admissions requirements for Fall 2018.
I talked to the Admissions office a few weeks ago and their response was that it would be finalized by end of July or early August. I asked if they thought they’d raise it and she said “I hope not” but seemed to indicate that it was the higher ups in the state who made that kind of call. That’s not really any new information…just passing on.
Do they superscore for purposes of getting the SAT score required? What is it currently? 1370?
Of course all we can do is speculate, but it seems IU will most likely follow the well worn route that Michigan and a number of other “schools on the rise” have taken, over the years, to become more selective. If you go back about 10-15 years, depending on the school, you will see they were easier to get into. The schools hire “enrollment management” and other experts to help them slowly raise their selectivity to get more students through various means, like merit awards. Eventually, the day comes when the school no longer needs to offer that scholarship aid. Kelley is already the 19th most difficult undergrad business school to get into, and raising their admission criteria will probably bump them up to 15 or 14 or 13 or so. Prestige follows, then money. It’s a proven method.
Schools can raise entrance requirements more now because the influx of international students has increased over the years. They pay full rack rate. For example, the Chinese and Indian middle class and upper class have grown dramatically over the years and they can now afford to send their kids to the best American schools, which they covet. Brazil and some other countries too. Add to that upper-middle class Americans who can’t afford top private schools because they don’t qualify for need-based financial aid and therefore head to the next highest tier, which are top public schools, and you get more applications to those schools.
Schools that are highly-ranked have no shortage of applications and feel no need to keep their admission criteria low.
It’s a race to the top, because the more selective they get the more apps they get!
