I was was not a direct admit student into Kelley due to my GPA not meeting the required threshold. The grades I have listed below are what I currently have in my classes. Currently at a 81.8% heading into the final in finite and have a 84.75% in english with 3 graded papers not yet entered. I was just curious what my chances of getting in are especially since I will have an A in K201. I also have my second semester classes listed below my current classes and what I expect to get in those classes. I am expecting somewhere around a 3.5 at the end of the year. Obviously don't want to leave it to chance so I am trying extremely hard to get all B's and above but if I end up getting a B- would you suggest taking A100 and trying to get an A? Otherwise I was planning on taking it over the summer. Thanks.

ENG-W 131 (Composition): B/B-
MATH-M 118 (Finite): B/B-
SPH-I 117 (Bowling): A
GEOG-G 107 (Intro. to Geography): A/A-
BUS-K 201 (Business Technology): A/A-
PSY-P 101 (Intro. to Psychology): B

BUS-X 100 (Intro. to Business): A
BUS-C 104 (Business Presentations): A/A-
ECON-E 201 (Micro-Economics): B
SPH-H 180 (Stress Management): A
BUS-T 175 (Kelley Compass I): A
SPH-I 106 (Fishing): A
SPH-I 113 (Billiards): A

So do I have a good chance or will a B- in English or Finite ruin me?

I don’t have an opinion on whether you will get in with your current grades, but if you get an A or an A- in K201, I think it would be better for you to take X201 Technology instead of E201 microeconomics. It is tough to get a good grad in E201 at IUB with the massive classes and the heavily-weighted mid-term and final; however, you should do very well in X201 based on your performance in K201.

You can take E201 in the summer at a community college, or just take it first semester next Fall-- after you get accepted into Kelley-- in order to be able to take G202 and E370 the following spring and be ready for Icore.

Another non direct admit to Kelley due to GPA. Currently at 83.917 heading into the final in Math 119 and real problems in K201. Any suggestions? Thanks

Math-M119:B
SPH-I 113 (Billiards): B
REL-A 210 (Intro to Old Testament): B
BUS-K 201: B-
BUS-C 104: B+
BUS-T 175: A

Ogmudboner, Please DISREGARD ANY OF MY ADVICE, as I can’t even tell what is what from the Kelley admissions web page and the Kelley bulletin in pdf form. Those two sources actually have contradictory information. Especially don’t take X201 next semester as it looks like you definitely should not do that for Fall 2014 admission to Kelley. There seems to be a ton of ambiguity at IUB and Kelley in the last few years about scholarships, Kelley admissions, etc. They make big changes every year now and the online sources are either inaccurate or out of date. I think it was two summers ago that there was not even a Kelley bulletin released until after summer registration.

Happy Thanksgiving Holiday. It is fortunate for students on CC to get advice from you.

I believe that C204 and X201 are better choices than E201 for both OGmudboner and nstraub. However, I do think that OP may want to take A100. Even though the web page does not show that as a requirement, it could help to demonstrate his/her aptitude.

I have to take ECON-E 201 because I need one more math requirement for when I apply to the business school because I am taking MATH-M 119 over the summer at Ivy Tech and then transferring it in. I may also take BUS-A 100 over the summer if I can not fit it into my schedule this year.

You can take both E201 and M119 during summer. Ivytech offers on-line courses also. If you are not working full time, you can take 3 courses including L201 in summer. A100 is only offered at selected IU campuses during summer and has a more complicated arrangement with A201 per the Ivytech link. It makes more sense to take it in spring and drop the other one credit course.

OP–I am curious, how can you accurately predict your grades for next semester? Or even this semester, until you have taken your finals, and the outstanding papers/projects have been graded?

You know exactly what you need to do–get the highest possible grade in every class, and to take the classes as strategically as possible so as to meet the entrance requirements while maintaining gpa–and hoping that all of your fellow Kelley Hopefuls are not as ambitious as you are…

Since I am already in holiday mode, here are my $0.02.

Most OP’s courses in spring semester are relatively predictable especially if s/he knows who will be the instructors.

That is a wishful thinking. Kelley’s students are getting better and better. Professor Winston’s A100 session 1 has 42 students getting perfect scores on the final.
