I am trying to decide between the two. And i need to make a decision. The Ball State program looks pretty cool The Pre-Business Honors Program welcomes 20 to 30 entering freshmen each year and encompasses the first two years of study. This curricular-based program is offered only to our highest achieving and motivated freshmen. This specialized curriculum allows you to take classes with other students like yourself in a small and enriched environment. The courses are filled with more discussion, more cases, and more hands-on learning. This program also provides direct admission to the Miller College of Business.

So i got into that program at BSU but i know what a great program IU is and i dont know if i should pass it up. Any thoughts?

kelley also has an honors business program, except you have to apply after your freshman year.

in my opinion, you really just have to visit both schools and determine which one fits you better and which one you will do the best at and enjoy yourself the most at.

i believe people who are destined to be successful will be successful irrespective of the school they went to. you just have to figure out which school will maximize your success. a major benefit of attending kelley is that it is a very large business school and therefore attracts many firms. however, if you think bsu fits you better as a student and as a person, i would pick bsu regardless of whether or not they attract the same sorts of companies as kelley.

Probably depends upon what you are planning to major in. Ball State’s business program is highly rated in Operations and Supply Chain Management. Indiana-Bloomington ranks higher in pretty much everything else. Of course, being one of only 20 to 30 admitted to the honors program will look good on your resume when you graduate–so it’s a tough call.

you should select Kelley. like j7od3 said Kelley has a business honors program after your freshmen year. kelley is a top 20 undergrad bchool, and if you do well they will provide you with opportunities. you said you wanted to major in finance? well the Kelley school has a program called the investment banking network, where they help students land jobs in investment banking in chicago, wall street, and cali.

you stated the BSU honors program has more in depth discussions… kelley will also provide you with that if your just in the honors program sophomore year… if your not in the honors program you will have more “indepth discussions/smaller feel” come junior year especially in your major courses/classes.

if your determined. you will do well starting your freshmen year and you’ll get into the honors program at kelley.

For the Kelley Honors program, during your first two years, you have to take a select number of honors classes(a certain number of business and/or liberal arts). These classes are usually smaller, have smarter kids, and generally you’ll end up with a better grade. For your junior year, you take honors i-core. After that, there’s really no “honors” classes within your major. For example, honors and non-honors kids take the same 300 level finance classes. Basically, if you’re doing finance which is the most popular major at kelley, you’ll be in 40-50 person classes. This may sound like a lot compared to high school, but it really isn’t that bad.

Putting things in perspective, not having honors classes isn’t necessarily a bad thing, the students who make it through i-core are generally just as hard working and smart as honors kids, although there are always exceptions for both.

I also did not direct admit into Kelley. I think I got into the BSU honors business because I really enjoy business stuff and i follow the stock market etc. I think I will get into the Kelley school of business but how hard is it exactly to get into the honors program for business at kelley without a direct admit?

that sort of changes things since your not a kelley direct admit. however, if your passionate about business, you should try your best freshmen year to get into kelley… which I think you will if you pick kelley. your a hs senior and your posting on CC which shows me that you already have a level of commitment to do well.

in order to get into the business honors program, you’ll need to get a GPA above 3.7 while taking more than 28 credits. also get some leadership position… there’s more info on the kelley website.

the only thing you need to do is compete against the DA kids and excel in your freshmen year courses… they don’t care if your a DA or non-DA after the freshmen year.

Thanks! I really appreciate the feedback. I am pretty committed to doing well. I don’t think getting into Kelley will be too much of a problem if i try. But I’m not sure about the honors program. It seems like a stretch. Do you think it would be worth taking the intro level classes for two years versus starting right away at BSU?

Quote from College on Kelley Honor:
“in order to get into the business honors program, you’ll need to get a GPA above 3.7 while taking more than 28 credits. also get some leadership position”

Question:

Would this 3.7 GPA include those transferred from another IU campus?

ace550, I don’t know for certain that that applies to all IU regional campuses, but it does for IUPUI, so you might check with the campus you will be using. The Credit Transfer site doesn’t list any regional campuses except IPFW for some reason. So maybe it makes a difference with that campus. Someone at a regional campus registrar’s office could probably tell you for sure.

schmidty32, you will have more/better opportunities if you attend kelley. i think you should highly reconsider your decision and look into kelley.

if you have committed to bsu, congrats on your decision both are great institutions.
