Is there any accelerated program that NU has where I can earn my undergrad and MBA in 5 years? If so, what are the admissions requirements?
No, in fact you would likely need at least 2 years of post bachelor’s work experience to be admitted to most top MBA programs.
There is, however, a non-MBA masters program at Kellogg (MS in Management Science: http://www.kellogg.northwestern.edu/programs/ms-management-studies.aspx) targeted to newly graduated undergrads, and I’ve seen somewhere that it is very easy for qualified NU undergrads to get into it.
@thatrunnerkid What would be the point of a non-MBA masters at Kellogg? Seems sort of useless.
^I am pretty sure MS from Kellogg is gonna make you more marketable than any 5-year BA/MBA program out there. I don’t think top MBA schools admit candidates straight out of undergrads.
Ok, I’m assuming that you’re either a Weinsberg and McCormick student. So lets say you’re an engineering student, and you want to get an MBA. You typically want a MBA degree to become a head executive of an engineering company, right? Well, most companies won’t hire you to lead engineers if you haven’t been one yet. You need to gain experience in engineering before you can lead other engineers, and besides, which engineer would like to be led by some newly graduated student? That’s why they don’t have combined programs, and as most people said, the MBA program is really good, which makes it even more selective, so they don’t want to guarantee admission for some unfinished undergrads when they can admit highly qualified and experienced students. Also, chances are, if you have work experience, you have money to pay.
^On top of that, MBA students at top schools do learn from their peers who share their insight through prior experience. Top MBA schools embrace that and as koolguy654 said, they have more than enough quality applicants with working experience; someone straight out of undergrad has virtually zero chance to get in. 2nd/3rd tier programs don’t have that luxury and do lure students through such combined programs but they are the ones that are useless. It’s hard to learn about management from textbook if you haven’t been managing anyone other than yourself or even been at a workplace for a while.
Kellogg MS is for fresh college grads who don’t want to go to those useless MBA programs but want to gain practical and technical skills at a top business school. By the way, the MS program from Kellogg should qualify you for any one-year MBA program out there if you decide to go for MBA, say, few years down the road.
