@ineffableaurora @jed2020 @insula
Any updates, guys?
Not thus far
Anyone else heard anything? @ineffableaurora what did they say when you emailed them?
The last contact I had with KWH was when I was asked to fill out the survey email⊠nothing so far. (ED)
I will email them tomorrow night and see whatâs happening. Iâll let you all know what I get in response!
I asked Jamie-Lee if she had the chance to read my work. Hereâs her response:
"Hi _____,
I did indeed read your work! Thanks for reaching out. I made sure that Admissions knows that weâve been in touch and that we at the Writers House feel strongly about your candidacy. They are now in the final part of their process. I hope youâre managing the end of this waiting period as well as possible!"
What do you all think?
Sounds good, though it is odd that they havenât sent anything outâŠI guess Iâll email her as well tomorrow morning? I think the response you got is great, since she said they âfeel strongly about your candidacyâ.
How does one get recruited by KWH? Iâm applying to Penn as an English major RD,but I havenât received any mail for KWH
@ZBlue17 have you been in contact with them?
@doorrealthe no, am I supposed to contact them myself? And if so, is it too late to do so (applying RD)?
@doorrealthe nice! should I email jamie-lee first, then?
@janetsnakehole17 I think you should hold offâŠmultiple people have emailed her now asking the same thing. Youâd most likely just get the same response as I did
@ZBlue17 sorry, thatâs not really how the KWH works. Itâs a long process - one that typically starts in Junior year of high school. You need to demonstrate that youâre a successful writer, you need to be in steady contact with them for a while, you need to visit the Writers house and/or participate in online book groups, and you need to fill out a recruitment survey. Itâs far too late to contact the Writers House and would probably make you look bad if you do.
@zblue17 Even though the above poster did a great job of explaining the typical KWH recruiting process, there are always exceptions. If you are a very strong writer who has published some of your works or have attending some of the well-known, selective writing programs, itâs never really too late to contact KWH if you just found out about it. They are always looking for talented writers and arenât going to ignore your interest just because it came late if you are someone that would be an active contributor to the KWH community. You should get in touch with them.
@desie1 good point!
I think itâs likely too late. I write a lot, but nothing that Iâve ever really shared with anyone except friends/family
Although I havenât gotten any officials letters saying that KWH has sponsored me, I know that I got two letters of internal recommendation simply because I know one of the people pretty well and reached out a few weeks ago. Iâm just putting this out there to say that even if you havenât gotten the letter, there is still a chance they sponsored you.
I think the question is whether there actually was a letter that went out to the people who are supported this year? Nobody has reported actually receiving an email in November of this year.
@ZBlue17 It isnât too late for RD at all and you donât need to have been published or to have attended seminars or competitive events.
Simply compile several selections from your writing and email it to KWH and Jamie-Lee telling them about your interest in becoming a part of KWH and asking for their consideration. My son knows several students accepted last year that did that. My son was contacted by them and asked to join KWH because of his admissions essays⊠They are always looking for talented writers!!!
You have nothing to lose by contacting them, and everything to gain if writing is an interest of yours and you think youâd like to be a part of KWH.
So many students are in touch with KWH, and all interested students are always welcome to join and participate once on campus. But there are only a small number who actually receive an endorsement with admissions in advance of the decision. But anyone interested in writing school be in touch with them. Many students select Penn as their school to attend because of the fact that they can drop by KWH and be part of a community, even if theyâre a Wharton student, an engineer, nursing or a CAS non-English major.
