I totally agree red06, Ken lost on purpose. It was so obvious, i mean he didn't even look like he was trying. I guess was just tired of all the publicity eh? And missing two final jeopardies, I was sure surprised. I think ken jsut wanted to settle down with his family. But he'll always be KING!

That Brad guy was ridiculously good. But he came across as a pompous ass. Ken Jennings is still the man.

I like Ken, but I don't like 10% of his winnings going to the Mormon church.

Ken is the best. I definitely admire the man.

aim78, i totally agree about rutter being a pompous ass.

sigh, watched jeopardy, and I must say, there are a lot of ken wannabes. ken will not be replaced. Oh why did ken lose? Jeopardy isn't as exciting to watch any more.

It's not fun to watch because the questions are ridiculously hard. I used to actually get some of them right. Now I just sit there with a blank look on my face, feeling stupid. I'd much rather watch Whose Line which is on at the same time.

Why all the negativity towards Brad? C'mon guys...I like Ken a lot too, and he's an excellent player, but I was rooting for Brad simply because Ken has never come across such a worthy opponent before and I wanted someone to put him in his place. Ken's very good, but he's not the best (I'm not saying Brad is the best either...I don't think there can ever be a tournament to determine "the best" in Jeopardy -- luck is a big part of it). I think that Brad may've had a good run as well if there were no 5-day rule back then.

And pompous ass? Maybe, but I could say the same for Ken...I think they're both fairly arrogant. I was smiling to myself when Ken slammed his buzzer down at the end of the second day...get a taste of his own medicine (shut-out in buzzing).

Ahem, speaking as a 5-time Jeopardy champion who played in the recent tournament (and lost in the first round), I can tell you that NO ONE loses on purpose on Jeopardy. It's a very competitive game, and besides there were TWO MILLION DOLLARS riding on it. Do you seriously think that Ken would fritter away 2 million bucks? By beating him in three straight games, Brad Rutter definitely proved he is a stronger player than Ken Jennings. Ken's a great player, but the game has been on for 21 years - there have been many, many great players on in the past.

Jeopardy is a great game though. Some of the money I won years ago is helping to pay my daughter's way through college right now. The $5,000 I got in this recent torurnament will go toward my second daughter's schooling.

Ken is great. It appears to me Ken lost mainly due to that he isn't fast enough as Brad (purposely? it doesn't look like so from his facial emotions) even though he probably knows as much as (if not more than judging from his previous performance) Brad.
And this maybe regarded as biased, but I do somehow feel Brad a bit pompous, as someone already pointed.

Maybe he was just rusty? After all, he wasn't absolutely dominant at the beginning of his record-setting run, and not being at his best just was not good enough against someone like Brad.

Well...I guess i take back my comment about ken losing on purpose. But still, 2 million isn't a lot to ken considering his talk show appearances and his commercial success. Brad was good I'll admit, but he did seem rather desperate and pompous. Ken is still king, he may be a bit of a nerd, but he personifies the connotation of a good nerd: goo sense of humor, witty, observant, and smart. He seemed like a modest guy and i saw no trace of arrogance in him.

He'll be making plenty of money in the future. He probably got half a million just for that commercial, and now he's going to have his own gameshow on Comedy Central. I doubt he'll last that long, though.

He may make good money from his commercials, but talk shows usually pay the union minimum - a few thousand dollars. Ken is not yet to the point where 2 million is "not a lot". He's not a Rockefeller; he's a middle class computer guy. Two million will ALWAYS be a lot of money to him no matter what happens from here.

Ken Jennings seems like a great guy, and it's clear that he is a wonderful Jeopardy player, among the best ever. But let's not get carried away.

Actually, I've met many Jeopardy champions, and despite how they may appear on screen, I've found that in person they are pretty much all very interesting and nice people. Jerks seem to be very, very rare. I've never met Brad Rutter, but I know several other champions who have, and they say he is a great guy.

Coureur....do you post on the Jeopardy messageboards and were you a 5X champion (A particular 5X champ posts on there with the same screenname as yours)?

As someone who has met Brad before, I would say he's a really cool guy who loves The Simpsons (which is good enough for me). I saw no trace of arrogance in him and he was very friendly.

The very same.

Long live Van Doren and 21

BUMP I'm bored, anymore ken fans?

Ken may be the king, but the ultimate first king was Charles Van Doren
