I am an international student from China. I've been both accpeted by Kenyon and MHC but have a hard time making the final decision. I really like Kenyon, for its academic excellence in biology and literature and its strong sense of community. But its location in the middle of Ohio really worries me. Will Kenyon has many internship opportunities as MHC does? I have heard people saying that due to Kenyon's location, its diversity sucks. So will I be able to fit in the college as an international student? As for MHC, I do not worry much for entering a women-only college. But MHC only offers me an Spring-admission and not so much financial aid as Kenyon offers. I am very interested in majoring in environmental science, studying music and visual arts at the same time. So Which one should I choose? I would appreciate any help or suggestions!!!!!

I went to MHC quite a few years ago and I now have a son who will be attending Kenyon next Fall. While I do not yet know much about Kenyon, I can speak to Mount Holyoke. Both campuses are absolutely beautiful. Academically, Mount Holyoke is quite rigorous and you will definitely get a fabulous education that will prepare you for anything you want to do. However, I would be absolultely sure you want to be in an all women’s environment for 4 years. Even though Mount Holyoke is within the five college consortium, I personally found the social life to be limiting. Truthfully, if I had to do it over I would have made a much different choice.

Also, I am not sure that Kenyon is that much more remote than MHC. Kenyon is less than an hour from Columbus and South Hadley is about one and a half hours outside of Boston. It is about 25 minutes from Amherest and Northhampton.

As far as the ability to find good internship opportunities, both are top schools. Check with their career counseling centers to help you make your final decision.

Good luck!

From what I’ve heard, yes Kenyon is not that diverse, but “not because people want it to be”. In other words, you’re really not going to run into issues based on diversity, class, etc. I’ve been talking to an international student on facebook, and she wouldn’t trade Kenyon for the world. I definitely think you’ll be able to find a group of friends and fit in.

And you never know, you may end up liking the change of location.

I am in your shoes! I am an international student and it came down to MHC or Kenyon as well. I am choosing Kenyon because of their top notch financial aid package, their strong academics and their general quirkiness. But when I visited MHC, I found it to be more constricting than Kenyon. Yes Kenyon is in the middle of Ohio, and yes that worries me, but MHC is also in a small town, and they are not kidding about the all girls thing. I thought i was okay with it, but I actually did not see one guy. And MHC is farther away from the consortium than all the other 4 colleges, so I dont think it works as well as they promote it. It’ll end up being your decision, but I’m happy with my choice

Hi, iamthing. Glad to hear from you. I think I have made the final decision. I will come to Kenyon, though it’s a bit sad to say goodbye to MHC. i am sure Kenyon will give me what i want. Thanks you guys for all the replies!!
