Kenyon or NYU?

hey everybody. This may sound odd, but the two schools I'm looking at the most seriously are Kenyon College and NYU. They're both great schools from what I've heard, but I was wondering if anyone has any personal experience with either of these schools, or has heard anything about them worth mentioning. In terms of NYU, I would apply to Tisch School of the Arts if that makes a difference. Thanks!

I'd go w/ NYU. IMO, it has a better location, and the Tisch School is quite renowned. NYU also has more name recognition. If this is a problem, tho, I've heard the NYU campus is not very social b/c it's spread out.

NYC offers so much. But if you're not interested in a big city with a lot of offerings and are intersted in a small closely-knit community, then Kenyon might be the better choice.
I have a bias for LAC's because I go to one, I think the education you get at an LAC is the best kind. At the same time schools like NYU are fantastic, and you could get a great education at either of the two schools.

I honestly think you will have equal opportunities at both. You will have amazing academic experiences and opportunities at both. If you haven't visited both, try to do so. I visited Kenyon and loved it. The students were really friendly, the campus was beautiful. Although it is in a small town, when will you ever have the chance to live in this kind of environment again? With Kenyon you have much smaller classes and a more intimate atmosphere.

On the other hand, NYU is in a bustling city, so it will feel much different than Kenyon in that respect. You also have so many options in terms of study and social life. You will get a unique experience at either school, so apply to both, try to visit each, and go where it feels right. Good luck!

I honestly don't know much about NYU, although I've heard great things about it. I'm going to be a freshmen at Kenyon next year and I would really encourage you to visit the campus. Like Ainsley said, once I visited there, I was sold. I think just because it has a certain feel that can't be conveyed through the internet or mailings. The people there are great, friendly, helpful and the campus is out of this world. After I visited I was so afraid I wouldn't get in, because after being there, I didn't want to look at any other schools. I would say, visit both and the answer will become more clear.

Clearly the common thread here is theatre. Still, you couldn't possibly have chosen two more dramatic polar opposites as Kenyon and NYU. Small or large, rural (to the extreme) or urban (to the extreme), quaint campus or no campus, strong campus community or big city anonymity, pre-professional BFA or liberal arts B.A. Surely you can't honestly answer "no preference" to each of those? That should make up your mind - whichever one feels most like home will give you the best theatre experience.
