Kenyon v. GW v. Maryland (CP) - for journalism, writing

Your thoughts suggestions... thanks.

i realize this won't be helpful, but you really can't go wrong at any of them. Maryland and GW would probably offer you more internship opportunities..

I would say Maryland has a better reputation for journalism academically, but GW would probably be better due to location.

if you are in the limited enrollment program for journalism at UMD...then i would definitely go for it (over GW--i know nothing about kenyon, sorry). maryland's journalism program is strong and prestigious; there are 500 students in the entire program, which really creates a nice microcosm within the larger UMD environment...the teachers/administrators really get to know you. i had a one-on-one with the dean of the journalism school, and he is extremely competent.

i disagree with greenface. dc is just a metro ride away...it really depends on how often you are going to use the city.

Well, GW has lots of great adjunct professors from CNN, the Post, etc. because it of the location. Also, SMPA has a special relationship with CNN so there are lots of opportunities to work with production of shows...Crossfire used to be filmed at GW and there are still productions at the Jack Morton auditorium. While UMD is near D.C...it's a 40 hour metro ride at least and the College Park metro is a drive from the campus itself.

GW--Has better facities that CP. My roomate is in the SPMA and went to an event at CP, and the kids were impressed with her broadcast. GW TV is amazing and a great resource for Journalism students. I have taken a few classes at G-Dub and they were great. I'm considering Journalism for grad school though. Merill is a great school, but GW really is superior,

Isn't Kenyon pretty much out in the middle of nowhere?

I would say go to GW's SMPA. I think it's one of GW's strongest assets, if not the strongest. Professors are better, there are much smaller classes, the SMPA building is beautiful...and interning is SO easy and acessible in D.C.

When I think of Kenyon I think of one of the top LACs for writing... that's their reputation as I understand it. But for journalism I think GW and Maryland would be better because, as everyone else has said, internship opportunities. And yes, Kenyon is in the middle of a cornfield in Ohio, I applied and visited there.
