Kenyon v. GW v. Maryland (CP) - for journalism, writing

Suggestions? Thanks

Kenyon does not have journalism. They have a creative writing concentration within their English department.

GW has a journalism program with a focus on public affairs.

Maryland has a highly regarded J-school.

You're talking about 3 very different colleges. What are YOU looking for in a school?

Yeah, those are pretty different choices. What kind of journalism do you plan to go into? That can definitely affect where you choose to go. IMHO, I think Kenyon should be considered on equal footing although it does not have a j-school...the most important part of a journalist's education isn't how to write an article - it's an ability to dissect the media and understand the world, which Kenyon will do a great job of.

I would knock GW out of the equation. I don't think it's as academically strong as UMD or Kenyon, and UMD's proximity to DC still affords it many of GW's advantages. So, it basically comes down to UMD - strong journalism program and great internship prospects, big school with a lot of school spirit, but maybe slightly lackluster liberal arts education - or Kenyon - a LAC in the middle of nowhere, stronger humanities, etc.

Between Kenyon and UMD, it's what you think is the best fit for you :). Good luck!
