Keyboard Training

So I received the Bowdoin Prospectus in the mail today. I was reading through it, and under Admissions: Selection Process, where they talk about the recommended classes, etc., there’s a line that says “Bowdoin also strongly recommends that students have keyboard training.”

Seeing as how “strongly recommends” usually means “required” for most colleges, does that mean my chances at Bowdoin are lowered because I don’t play the keyboard? O.o

I don’t know, this was just very weird …

are you sure they don't mean typing, instead of actually the instrument

This is the rest of the paragraph: "Further, many will have done additional academic work in arts, music, and computer science. <insert keyboard="" passage="">"</insert>

And hmm, I guess. I don't know, I was just weirded out by it, haha.

Musical ability isn't required for most schools, including Bowdoin. In my high school we had to take a year of what the school called "keyboarding," or typing, which is something that obviously comes in handy when you need to type a term paper, take notes, etc,.

BTW, arts can mean anything from AP Studio Art to culinary classes. I've found that some schools consider computer science to mean business courses while others consider it math-intensive, computer based classes so give Bowdoin a call to clarify it. Take note that the college didn't say that the MAJORITY of students have done work in EACH of those fields, so I wouldn't freak out about it.

It's definitely talking about QWERTY touch-typing skills. You'll probably be using computers, and total hunt - n - peck might be annoying.
