kids passed up other schools for ucla

i just realized that while i was here, i have met many kids who actually passed up really good schools for UCLA. among the friends i know, they have collectively passed up: harvard, stanford, duke, northwestern, wash U, michigan, johns hopkins, and of course, berkeley.

the even more suprising thing is, all of these kids say they love it at UCLA and that they were glad in retrospect that they chose UCLA over those other schools.

do you know any kids who passed up other top schools for UCLA?

which top schools that you applied/got accepted to are you willing to pass up for UCLA?

Isn't UCLA becoming a top school itself, if it isn't already?

First off UCLA is a top school, so it should not be that surprising. I applied to Berkeley, but UCLA remains my first choice.

If I applied to all the schools mentioned above, and was given an offer, it would be a tough choice, but UCLA would be one of my top choices.

I think it would be a three way tie with UCLA, Harvard and Duke.

But I didn't even bother applying to a private school...I have no interest in paying $30-40k when I can get the same education for a fraction of the price at UCLA...plus it's a good city to live in.

My friend's older brother passed up Harvard for UCSD.

A past valedictorian chose UCLA over other schools (which included some Ivies and Berkeley).

"Isn't UCLA becoming a top school itself, if it isn't already?"

i have to say that i am somewhat surprised by this statement. i expected CC forumers to start their elistist comments and about the stupidity of those who passed up other schools for ucla. but apparently, this elitism only exists in other sub-forums on CC.

oh i forgot to mention georgetown as well.

You just had to mention my predicament don't you? ;)

Dependent of course on if I even get into UCLA.
