Kids under 18 who need to rent a place for the summer in Palo Alto

Hi everyone!

So I was recently accepted to SIMR, and I live about 90 minutes away. I would prefer to stay in the area, but I'm not sure how to go about renting someplace. I'm still 16, so even though I will have a car, I can't sublease a Stanford dorm for the summer. There are a few other SIMR kids in the same position as me, so we would all be open to sharing rooms/housing/whatever.

Does anyone have any advice?

If you don’t want to apply to summer housing for SIMR, you can actually try to sublet from a grad student. Technically, they aren’t even allowed to sublet to undergrads, but they do it all the time.

If that doesn’t work for you, there are rooms available in Palo Alto (usually someone in a house or apartment has a room). Or you and a few others can rent a house/apartment. The downside is that it can be hard to find such near campus, so unless one of you has a car, you’ll have to figure out the transportation (the Marguerite would service only very selective parts).

Try this for postings:

[SUpost Classifieds](http://www.supost.com)

It has postings from Stanford and Palo Alto. You can also try craigslist, but I always found more success on supost.

I don’t think we’re allowed to apply for summer housing at Stanford. The SIMR website says you have to be 18. Where would I look to sublet from a grad student? Is there a website or something?

I do have a car, so as long as it’s pretty close to Stanford it should be fine. Thanks for the link I will check it out!
