Kind Of Nervous!!

Ok here's the deal. If you don't know, I am applying to a program called A Better Chance which helps you with private schools. (I am applying to Peddie, Blair, Mercersburg, Hil, Lawrenceville, and Hun.) Not only did I apply to the program, but a close friend of mines is to. Today, she told me at school that she got a letter from A Better Chance stating that she didn't get through. (If you do get accepted to the program, they let you know what other schools they will refer you to.) However, she got her letter Tuesday. I usually get things before her.

Does that mean I got through and that they are figuring out the schools I am being refered to or is it just my imagination?

njdana -- I'm sorry that it did not work out for your friend.

If I remember correctly, you are a top student in an inner-city public school with around 90% ssat, good ec's, etc. Your family immigrated here from somewhere in Africa. You seem very personable, and you thought your interview with A Better Chance went very well.

I understand that it must be very hard just waiting to hear back from them. However, from the little I know of you, I think they will select you. Keep in mind that I really know very little about ABC, but if they don't select you, who will they select? You seem very qualified.

Is there someone you can contact to find out your status, or did they just ask you to wait until you hear from them?

look into the Albert G. Oliver program..

I bet you'll get in. You'll be fine. You are an AMAZING applicant.
This might be a little blunt, but who gets better grades - you or your friend?

Well I had all A's except two B's this past marking cycle. She had A's, B's, C's and one D (In one of our 3 math courses).

That's really good.
Her grades are considerably lower than yours, but not by much, so they might like that you have As and Bs rather than a scattering of grades. You'd seem like a consistent scorer (does that make sense?).

The Albert G. Oliver program is for Latino's in the New York area. I believe it also starts in 7th grade so I am not qualified. A good thing about ABC is that you can apply to the program till the 10th grade.

No, it's not only for latinos; it's also for black students.

What grade are you in?

I guess so lol. The only thing I think I really know I have a problem in is that I put WAY too much pressure on everything. I am sort of like a perfectionist. If I feel that I am not up to part, I am really REALLY hard on myself that I just stop thinking and just get angry. Anger managementish? (Does that make sense? LOL)

I have precisely the same problem, if that can be defined as a problem at all. :p

8th..
If you look in my stats post, I was in the Wight Foundation program. (I unfortunatly didn't make it to their summer program)

It's really hard not to stay cool when you have parents just on your shoulder waiting for you to get High Honors, but I guess it is worth it at the end.

I have finally got a letter from ABC..They are referring me to the following schools,

Montclair Kimberly Academy (Day School)
Blair Academy
Peddie School
Hun School
Mercersburg Academy
Taft..

I can't wait till the deadlines.

:) Congrats... great job

Congratulations! I know Blair, Peddie, Mercersburg and Taft are great schools. I don't know much about Montclair Kimberly and very little about Hun (except that it's in the MAPL). I think you'll have some wonderful choices in March.

Congratulations!!! :D I'm so happy for you.
