Kind of Random- Braces at Boarding School

Yeah, everytime I go to my orthodontist's office, I get worried.
I have a retainer.
But there is NO WAY that boarding schools would not let kids go to their schools because they wear braces.
Many students have them, and a lot of them are outstanding, unique ones.
I bet they have policies or rules for when you can go, but for safety, you should check with the school.

the whole boarding school braces thing was that moron's lame attempt at humor; i understand the confusion, as it can be tough to recognize jokes that are completely unfunny.

My daughter has braces; we called the boarding school before she started and asked them to recommend an orthodontist. We met with him in September and LOVE HIM! He is better than the one she sees back home. She has an appt w/ him about every 4-5 weeks. The nurse will call the school to remind her of the appt--and she just walks to the orthodontist's office. The ortho just bills my credit card, so my daughter doesn't have to worry about payment. It works really well. I am sure you will be able to have a similar arrangement at the school you will be attending.

Haha I go to a boarding school and I started wearing braces in the fall of my freshman year. How unfortunate! The beginning of my boarding school years! I had a huge problem though because I had to go back home to see my orthodontist. Home is about 2 hours away but my parents had made a few round trips during Wednesdays to pick me up to go home and see the orthodontist. As a result, I skipped schools for 2 or 3 times, which are really not a lot. However, my progress was slowed because sometimes appointments weren't available during my holiday vacations. Seriously, for me, getting braces was quite a lot of work and stress for my parents. It lasted for a little more than two years, even though I could had gotten them off in less than two years. Nevertheless, I got them off last year and I'm feeling wonderful!
There are actually a few people at my boarding school who wear braces. But because there are several small towns nearby, kids can always see orthodontists at these towns or ask the school's health center for extra help on that.

I too am one of those amazingly fortunate people with braces. I'll only have them for one year at bs tho.

and that's ridiculous about not being allowed to have braces at bs, my interviewers didn't say a thing and i was smiling right at them! LOL. Braces rock! heehee

man, i think braces are one of the biggest non-factors in teenage life. maybe because i have kinda big lips and don't really do those julia roberts-type smiles too often, but most people didn't even know i had them.

regardless, i truly don't think anyone cares. certainly the boarding school itself couldn't care less; it's like saying they won't let people in for having acne.

The issue about braces in bs is finding an orthodontist local to your bs who will work with your orthodontist from home. OR you need to switch to an orthodontist at bs who is your primary (so to speak) provider. OR you need to go home to your orthodontist once a month for your check-ups and readjustments. It is really a question of logistics.

fun is fun

haha u almost got me at tht first post..lol

I'd respond in more depth, probably with a pat on the back for myself, bbbbbut I'm still hurting too much deep inside my soul from being called a "moron" by lbftw.

fun is fun has feelings too, people.

HAHAlmao
ther r some rly funny ppl on here haha...

you get enough breaks that you can just have your check-ups/tightenings then. dentists love to maximize the number of times you come into the office, but i guarantee if you pose it as a question between going to them less or going to somebody else, they'll say you can just come in less.

i don't really care who my orthodontist is as long as they get these stupid contraptions off me!!!!!!!!!! grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

Shoot.
What if i had problems with my braces in the middle of my sports practice or something and I had to go to my orthodontist immediately???????

well, maybe we should focus on getting in first before we start worrying about braces emergencies....

Okay...now that most of us now whether or not we've gotten in to boarding school, some of us (like me) are worried about braces.

I, for example, really need braces, but I don't know what to do. Should I get them put on here and get see my orthodontist during the holidays? Or should I find an orthodontist at home and an orthodontist close to the school who are willing to work together?

Find an ortho at home and get the adjustments during vacations/breaks. We tried splitting between ortho at home and one at school and it didn't work. They really don't want to work with each other and/or split the fees. It might take a little longer this way...but it will work better in the long run, and probably be less expensive.
