So... I am one of the extremely unlucky few who will have braces at boarding school. I was wondering how many people generally have braces at the boarding schools- any input would be FANTASTIC!

Most don't allow braces -- you should have checked into that first. I'd call the school immediately to see if they will make an exception, but I've never heard of it being done.

I'm sure they have to make many exceptions. These schools have hundreds of teenagers there... how can you expect them not to have braces?

Are you even serious. There are plenty of kids at boarding school with braces. There is no way that they aren't allowed.

that sounded like sarcasm, guys.

I don't think so, lol.

Lots of girls here have braces; I happen to think that braces are adorable. Straight teeth later in life is worth a little static electricity today!

I think one of the actual problems about having braces at boarding school is finding a orthodontist near the school that you can get to without a big hassle and who will work, if necessary, with your orthodontist at home. The two could have differing opinions on the course of treatment - how does that get worked out?
But, bottom line, there are many students with braces and these things get resolved. The schools medical centers all have done this before!

You could try to schedule on weekends/on vacations if the school is within a few hours of your orthodontist.

i have braces =D

My D has braces at boarding school. Her orthodontist basically refused to work with an orthodontist at her school, so she only gets adjustments on school holidays and summers...which means she can only get in about 6 appointments per year. This has slowed her progress down a lot, which is discouraging. Talk to your ortho, maybe he/she will be more flexible.

You need to be very careful about which orthodontist you use at school.

for my second child, our orthodontist did not want to do his braces since he would be at school 4 1/2 hours away, and would not be home much. we went with who the school recommended and he was incompetent. my son wore braces all through bs (3 years) and his teeth were not corrected.

I'm lucky--I don't have braces, never had them, and probably won't have them. It's mostly because my teeth are really small. Seriously. I went to the dentist a few days ago, and she looked at my teeth, and she thought I still had my baby teeth. She also thought I was twelve years old. :D

hhahahahaa me too! i STILL have baby teeth...literally.

but people think i'm 15 & i workout. haha muscles.

but not really...i just dance 3 hours each day.

I have retainers!!lol. try and see if you can find an orthodontist near your school...it shouldn't be too hard f you have the standard type braces.

I suggest a call to your school's health center regarding "orthodontic emergencies." But for the basic visits, schedule them now for your vacations.

I'm getting retainers over the summer after I get my braces off. . .

Good luck with the retainers Helen...you're gonna have a lisp lol!!!haha i can't really talk, I have retainers too lol.

I need to get braces, but I'm applying to bs next year. Should I go ahead and find an orthodontist here that would be willing to arrange something and get braces, or what?

Yeah, I have braces now, too. I was sort of wondering about that, too.
