Kind posters, please Chance Me, I beg!

OK just to preface this, I want to say that I'm not trying to brag at all. I really am very nervous about getting in, and MIT is by far my top choice. I love Caltech and all, but it cuts off English and Foreign languages too much (plus you can cross-register at Harvard if you want to, not that you really need to).

Anyway, here are my stats:
SAT:
770 Math (Love math, don't know why in the world it isn't an 800 except careless mistakes, as I missed one easy Algebra one and a hard one in something else)
800 Reading (How, I have no idea; my former best was 680 and I had a 660 in June)
790 Writing (I always love the multiple choice and never get more than 2 wrong, but they hate my essays and gave me an 8 on this one)

SAT Subjects:
750 Lit (Much easier than I thought)
770 Physics (Studied my butt off)
800 Math 2 (As I said, I love math!)

AP:
Human Geography: 4
World Hist.: 5
US Hist.: 4
Eng. Lang.: 3 (Don't even ask. I thought I aced it and my essays were superb. I had the highest grade on the mock we did after school in my class, and there was a true English addict in the class. I also had like the 3rd highest grade of all 120 or so students my teacher had)
Ger. Lang.: 3 (I had the second highest grade, and the highest was a 5 from a native speaker. The class was, needless to say, not very informative. I love languages.)
Physics C: Mechanics: 4 (I learned this in the last two months of school on my own with only the assistance of the ocw.mit.edu lectures. I really love physics and will definitely major in it.)
Calculus AB: 5 (You can't take BC without AB at my school for some inane reason, so I've been learning the BC stuff while everyone else is reviewing AB for the first semester this year.)

I'm taking:
AP French Lang.
AP Stats
AP Gov.
AP Macroecon.
AP Calc BC
AP Eng. Lit.
AP Art Hist.
AP Env.

And I'm learning AP Physics C: Electricity and Magnetism on my own because it is sooo interesting. I'm going to take that exam at the end of the year, too.

Extracurriculars (in the order I put them on my MIT application that I haven't yet submitted):
Model U.N. - Chief Ambassador (head of my country delegation)
Social Studies Honor Society - President
Science Honor Society
Math Club
German Honor Society

and I'm also in:
German Club
French Honor Society
French Club
National Honor Society

Summer Activities:
Science Center Volunteering
Global Youth Leadership Conference
Architecture firm employee

Awards/Honors:
National Merit Semi-Finalist
AP Scholar with Distinction
National Hispanic Scholar
Honorable Mention for my Model U.N. delegation

GPA:
Unweighted: 3.857
Weighted: 4.95

Rank:
7 (weighted) of about 650

Ethnicity:
Half-Mexican (what I put on everything)

And that's it. So what are my chances for MIT, Caltech, UChicago, and HYPS?

Finally! lol. Thanks. I don't know how they will look at my EC's though. They are pretty weak.

Haha, I will man:

MIT - Somewhat of a reach, but it is for all. I think you still have a good shot.
Caltech - Low reach/High match
UChicago - Match/probably in
Harvard - Low reach
Yale - Reach for all, but you have as good of a shot as anyone
Princeton - Reach for all, but you have as good of a shot as anyone
Stanford - High match

By the way, on mine did you mean WUSTL or GWU?

Good Shot. FYI MIT is the hardest school in the country to get into, so remember that it is a reach for everyone.. I would NOT advice going to Uchicago. I live in the area and it is known as the school "where fun goes to die". Most people vastly prefer northwestern.

Well, I'm not applying to Yale anyway, so that's good. I don't know if it will be harder for Caltech because my EC's aren't all Math/Science related. Do you think it would help to start the Math Honor Society at my school? I might try to do that.

And on yours, I meant WUSTL. You should definitely try for GWU though.

Haha that's encouraging. Well, I loved Chicago's campus, and have a friend who goes there. I really just like it for their AMAZING Physics program (what I'm going to major in), and it is a half-backup, although I'm applying to UC Santa Barbara for that.

Thanks a bunch man, I added you too. I'm hoping to get in somewhere like that with a strong Neuroscience program.

As for you, I say definitely try and do that. It shows initiative and leadership.

The "where fun goes to die" was created by Chicago students making fun of themselves. I have a friend who is a physics major, graduated last year, it was his dream to go to MIT but he was rejected (valedictorian, amazing scores, etc, though he had been in 3 different high schools which made his work load odd and couldnt take many AP classes which I think could be what his downfall was) and now goes to UChicago and absolutely loves it. The atmosphere of Chicago from what I hear, is very nerdy and quirky and everyone there is invested in their schoolwork, but they make fun of their nerdiness by inventing the "where fun goes to die" slogan. However, if that super nerdy atmosphere isnt something that appeals to you than perhaps Chicago isn't the best choice.

Anyway, hahaha I think MIT takes a lot of luck for anyone, and so I do think it is somewhat of a reach for you (particularly if they look at AP scores, I dont know if they do or not) but I wouldn't say its impossible for you to get into or a huge reach for you. Your probably better off than most. Same goes for Harvard/Yale/Princeton. Stanford and Caltech are only slightly more likely, and Chicago is a pretty good match.

Good luck!

@ AdequateRemedy
Thanks! I actually do kind of love the nerdy atmosphere and want to go somewhere where everyone really wants to learn, so that's good if Chicago is like that. I know, MIT is really a stretch for everyone, and all of my not-so-smart friends tell me "oh you can get in anywhere" but there are so many people much better than I. I just hope they don't apply to MIT lol.

Oh I used to want to go into Neuroscience, too. You know, John Hopkins and Duke both have great programs, and this is Johns Hopkins' Neuroscience department website:
http://neuroscience.jhu.edu/
I'm going to try to do the Science Honor Society thing before the end of the week, if possible, but I don't know how hard it is; I tried to make a Video Game Club, but I didn't want to make a float for homecoming, so decided against it.

wow, great scores. You have a decent shot everywhere, i would say. Youre EC's might bring you down a bit though

Thanks man, I think I'm going to definitely be applying to JHU! Duke I considered but I don't think I want to go too far into the Southern part of the US. Nice dude, definitely try to do that. And you should have done the Gaming Club - What types of games do you play?

are you applying early to MIT?

Very high SAT's and very good GPA.
I think you would be a good match for UChicago, the rest I'm not too sure about.

@tjan91:
Thanks! I know, the EC's are not my strong point.

@irugee:
Yeah, I wouldn't want to be in the south at all, not a very pleasant place, which is why I'm not applying there, either. I don't know how good it would look to colleges if I do such a recreational club, so that's another reason I didn't end up doing it. I have a PS3 so I play CoD4, MGS4, I used to play RFoM, got the beta for R2 a couple weeks ago, and I got LBP yesterday (preordered from GameStop). I think shooters are my favorite genre, though.

@navr91:
Yes, and I am trying to not know when they are due so that I will finish all three EA applications by my fake due date (Monday). I'm applying to (in this order) MIT, Caltech, and UChicago early, and then Stanford, Harvard, and Princeton regular, with UC Santa Barbara as backup.

@mariambaby3:
Well, if the blonde thinks my scores are good, that's enough for me lol. Jk jk. Thanks, I am really leaning on UChicago in case I don't make the others.

MIT - Low-mid reach.
Caltech - match
UChicago - high match
Harvard - mid reach
Yale - Always a crapshoot
Princeton - Ditto to yale
Stanford - IN

Good luck!

You have a shot at MIT, Caltech, Stanford, and UChicago.
And the HYP...you have a shot but it's way too hard to say with all the competition.

chance me too!
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/587297-please-chance-freshman-harvard-class-16-a.html

If I got into Stanford, I'd be sooo happy! And Princeton is my last choice, and I'm not applying to Yale. So cool!

Oh and I chanced you, Sail640.

I would say everything looks great except for the lack of a solid base in your ECs (I have a somewhat similar problem). You definitely have a shot at MIT, a slightly smaller shot at Stanford, and a smaller shot at HYP, just because they are reaches for everyone. Anyway, fellow part-Mexicans unite?

Haha yeah, fellow part-Mexicans unite! And together we shall rule the upper reaches of higher education!!!
