Kinda 'chance me' =)

I already posted it in 'Chance me' section, but then found this one and think it might be better to post here =)

I'm an international student looking for FA.

Background:
Moldova (Eastern Europe, the poorest country in Europe, actually),
my parents have no college education.

Academics:
I've graduated from two high schools at the same time. One was a regular high school, another was an on-line school located in Russia. It required to complete a high school curricula in a year x(
Moldovan diploma - 8,81 out of 10. Exams - 9,0 out of 10 (Russian literature, English, Physics - 10, Romanian - 8, Math - 7. Romanian was my fault, since the day before I caught a flu :/ And about math - there was no student in my school, who got 8.).
Russian one - 4, 35 out of 5.
I'm not sure about Russia, but in Moldova my gpa could have got me into every college I wish. But I don't xD

Nor Moldovan, neither Russian school offers any choice what to study, neither offer they a choice in level.

However, we have a student contests called 'olympics'. Have a regional award on English and Russian literature olympics. Here it weights really much.

I fluently speak 4 languages (Russian as a native, Moldovan as an official language of my country, English and Romanian (it is considered that Moldovan is a dialect of Romanian)). I began studying Japanese a year ago (in 12th grade) and continue it PG. I can speak it already o_O'

Extracurriculars:
Non-academic are too expensive, so I took academic ones.
I studied math and physics in 11th and 12th grade of high school as extracurricular.
In 12th grade it was math, physics, social sciences and History of Russia. And, of course, Japanese language and culture, where I was a President of our group, if that's relevant.
In 10th grade I played guitar and couldn't think about anything else, - that much i loved it xD

No SAT I, SAT II scores yet - my exams were rescheduled since the swine flu panic here and in the neighbour countries x(
However, i tend to get the maximum.

How about U of Chicago? May be any Ivies as a Big Happy Reaches? Or I'm wasting my time? :/

P.S. To the latest news what I've got - my gpa on 4.0 scale is about 3.6. Not sure, however.

How can you take sat I and sat II before the deadline? The only date available is Dec 5 :/

Before the deadline? Which one? I’m sorry, I’m not sure I get you :/

I mean, U of Chicago’s deadline is January 1st for example. Are you applying for Fall 2010?

I would say that you have in a pretty good chance, in my perspective. Anyway, I am not an expert in this area, I am only somebody also applying this year.

AlmaIlaria, yeah oO’
And, right, U of Chicago’s deadline’s Jan, 1st. Mayb, 2nd.
I don’t get your question. Everybody takes exams _before the deadline. Some - after. What’s the matter? ^^

kenhungkk, thank you =)
I guess, I shall contact you…

I thought you could sent SAT scores only BEFORE the deadline…I’m sorry…

Anyway, I do not think I can chance you…I’ve always thought being an intl student, especially from an under represented country, was a really big advantage (so you have excellent chances to get into Uchicago), but I have read a lot of posts here in CC and not everybody agrees with me. What do you think? Because I have the same problem (I am from Italy) and I know there are not many Italian students in US.

How much financial aid do you require?

Я говорю русское, английское, японское, и испанский язык

AlmaIlaria, still don’t get you x) you make me feel stupid XD
You take exams, and the results appear just in the scheduled time =) i think, there’s no chance to send them anyhow in advance… except the SAT rush policy… o_O

omega007, full aid.

pacers7ind, great =) You have trouble with at least Russian ^^ Gender endings problem, if to be specific ^^

Adversa, I’m going to send you a private message to explain. :p

In case other internationals students read this, I’ll try and explain here as well.

There are testing dates throughout the year, but which dates you take tests on depends when you are applying. For example, if you are applying for college for Fall 2010, the latest test date you will be able to take is January. And as it’s November now, that means you could take tests in December, and January, but not after then. Because the scores wouldn’t get to the colleges in time.

Some schools actually say they won’t accept scores from the January testing date, so you should look at the policies of your individual colleges to see what they say.

If your high school transcript is good, you MIGHT be able to not take the SATs. Many colleges say that they require international students to take the standardised tests UNLESS it is not available in the student’s home country. If the swine flu outbreak has caused all available tests to be postponed, then you might just be ok without them. You should contact the schools you are applying to to see about this.

portugueseninja, already done it ^^ anyhow, thank you for the advice.

if you have anything else to tell me, i would be very thankful =)

@ Adversa: Feel free to ask me.

Reach - UChicago & Cornell.
Beyond reach - rest of the Ivy League.

IPBear, okay, thank you =)

I’m not very qualified to chance you. But I think you should also apply to Amherst since you want full FA. And Amherst is very good.
And personally I really suggest you ask all the universities for application fee waiver. I have a feeling you can get application fee waiver if you tell them about your country’s and parent’s financial situation.

Best of Luck :)

System Failure, oh?
Thank you! I’m gonna ask them. I thought, it’s impossible, since i’m not an US citizen, but, you’re right, it can’t be harmful to ask for a fee waiver.

Thanks for the idea!

Just thought… why? I worked for that… i mean, i earned the money to apply. i think, it’s okay now =)

Anyway - thanks a lot!))

It’s great if you’ve collected enough money. But, if your financial situation is grave, then no harm in saving this money and asking for an application fee waiver :)

Very best of luck again =D
