Kindle DX???

I've been looking at the Kindle for a while and now they have a larger textbook-sized version. I also read that a lot of textbook publishers are going to be releasing Kindle versions-anyone know if this is likely to happen soon? Any thoughts on this device?

I have the “older” model of Kindle, the smaller one.

I don’t know, I still rather read a book, even though the quality of the text is pretty amazing on the kindle.

There is just something about holding an actual book that is more appealing to me. But I don’t regret buying it. It has an extremely long battery time and great for long trips on the plane or car.

still waiting for the day color comes out.

Thanks. Does it seem more durable than a laptop? Do you think it would hold up being tossed around in a bookbag?

I put mine in my backpack along with my textbooks.

The screen and the overall make up seems to be fairly durable.

I have Kindle 1, and am thinking about investing in Kindle DX. I originally got the Kindle because I wanted to scan my textbooks and put them on the Kindle. It turned out that wasn’t really a possibility since most of my textbooks have columns of text, which don’t translate well to Kindle. I still scan them and put the pdf files on my netbook, but it is not as nice to read from my netbook as it is from the Kindle. The Kindle DX reads PDF files natively, which means I can send my textbook scan directly to it. The cost is higher than I would like, but I may be able to sell off my old Kindle to make up some of the cost.

I have the earlier version of Kindle. The durability is good. Just remember to get a cover (I got a thicker, after market one) and make sure to close it when you’re done, to avoid scratches to the screen.) I’ve dropped mine a couple of times, no problem. I don’t think I’d try to pile massive amounts of weight on it. Throwing it into a backpack should be fine. Just don’t do what my S did with a brand new textbook in MS. He threw it into the backpack, right on top of a juice box, which burst open.
