I figured I'd start a topic that would be difficult to start a rip-roaring political debate in, haha.

I was recently able to catch up with a 2000 graduate that I hadn't talked to in quite a while. Throughout my time at the KP it was a rare day that he wasn't practicing one type of instrument or another (we weren't in band co either). Well he has recently started playing fiddle for a bluegrass band called the Goldmine Pickers and they are pretty darn good. I know there are a few southerners in this group who might enjoy some good down-home music so you might give these guys a spin, they have a website and you can listen to some of their music if you look them up on myspace or iTunes. I was able to catch them in concert and they were spectacular, even covered Paradise City by Guns N Roses, haha.

Didn't mean to ignore this post KP. Just got busy reading all the other, well you know... Stuff. My husband says to tell you that you are brilliant BTW. Quote. Anyhow, back to the band. Doing cover songs of Guns & Roses, bluegrass style, made me smile. Thats so funny. Who knew it could be done! I will look for these guys and sneak a peak at some MP3s. I kinda like the "new" bluegrass that has the irish in it. I read a review of them in Bluegrass Times just to see who they were. They really give them good praise. Thanks for pointing them out.

JM: tell your husband 'thank you' for the compliment. My fiance would not be happy to hear someone calling me brilliant, haha. If you like crazy cover songs by bluegrass bands you should check out a band called Hayseed Dixie. I'll make it easy for you to find some mp3's of Goldmine Pickers http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/goldmine

You guessed correct PM. Luckily as a 2000 grad his 5yr maritime commitment is over so he can now do this full time. He does still have the Navy Reserve commitment for a few more years so he still gets a two week paid vacation each year.
