Hooray Geneseo!

Although, I have to admit that I’m disappointed to see Binghamton pull ahead in both in-state and out-of-state rankings this year. It probably has something to do with the budget cuts that SUNY suffered in the past year and a half.

I was a little dissapointed as well but then reminded myself that with the exception of William and Mary the colleges in the top 10 are also double the size of Geneseo with more resources. I also believe most of them are doctorate granting campuses as well. Geneseo does pretty well considering its size and resources.

In yesterday’s Craine’s article the editor of the Kiplinger article discusses that several of the SUNY schools moved a few steps back in the rankings because of budget cuts. The article then goes on to say that both “test scores and ranking decreased at Geneseo”.

While Geneseo did move a few steps back in Kiplinger’s top ten for instate students, out-of-state students remained the same at #2, the test scores increased not decreased. (1320 Class of 2012 vs. 1340 class of 2013 Avg. SAT). Binghamton’s test scores increased as well to 1290 for the class of 2013.

I emailed Craine’s and also emailed the editor of the Kiplinger article because she was probably misquoted.
