Kitchen Aid Mixer

That’s an impressive paint job!
I didn’t know that replacement bands are available. Thanks for that info.

Sure. I just Googled KitchenAid replacement parts. I believe the new band with shipping was less than $15.

When we redid our kitchen a few years ago, I thought about the heavy duty mixer lift with shelf - but thought if there was a mess, it would end up on the floor vs the counter (and the counter would be easier for me to clean). thoughts/experiences?

I’ve got the special cabinet so, yeah, every once in a while there’s a spill on the floor, but I only use the mixer maybe every three months or so, and I only spill maybe every four times I use the thing. So, once a year I have to wipe something up from the floor. Not a biggie.

I have a Hobart KA that was my grandmothers - probably at least 70 years old. Motor still works great but the original glass bowl doesn’t stay put - it spins. So, the mixer isn’t really usable right now. I’ve considered buying a different bowl but I don’t know whether the issue is the bowl or the platform and the bowls are pricey (even on ebay.)

Does it have a lock plate to set the bowl in?

@RookieCollegeMom, I guess that’s a personal preference thing. I’ve had mixer lifts for 25 years in several different homes and it’s never been an issue. There may be an occasional spray of flour on the floor but I really can’t remember any problems with clean up. I really like for my countertops to be open and clear of stuff so it’s a huge plus for me to hide the mixer. I like how easy it is to lift it into place when I need it and then it goes back into it’s space just as easily. All of the mixer attachments are stored right below the mixer so it’s all in one place. And it’s nice to have an electrical outlet in the back of the cabinet so the mixer is always plugged in and ready to go.

When I bake, maybe I’m sloppier than the rest of you, but I need to sweep and mop the floors anyway when I’m some.

You’re sloppier than the rest of us.

All 3 of our adult kids are heavily into baking, so all 3 have received Kitchen Aid mixers for Christmas over the years. They all LOVE their mixer.

Wife’s mixer has died, so I offered to get her a Kitchen Aid as well, and she doesn’t want one!! Says they are too heavy. She’s not swayed by the quality of the product. Over our almost 40 yr marriage she’s probably owned about 5 cheapo mixers. Now that we are in the position to get something of quality, doesn’t want one.

Oh, well…

@MADad: That’s because she knows how good they are, and since all your kids have a mixer, she’ll have no one to leave it to!

I think so - It has a plate with notches in it and the bowl has corresponding pieces to fit into the notches. But, even when set, the friction of the mixing process dislodges the bowl so it begins to spin.

Don’t offer. Get one. Make sure she can return for a different color if desired.

Maybe try a stainless steel bowl?

I call the appliance lift, “the appliance elevator”.

We have three cabinets in a row in the island — all have appliance lifts: Toaster, Cuisinart food processor, and KitchenAid mixer.

Before remodeling, two applicants had lifts; with remodeling we wanted all three. We use each several times a week, even if not daily!

Oooo, I love the idea of having an appliance lift for the toaster. I hate having it on the counter all the time. But it would take up a big cabinet and actually take up more real estate than it currently does.

Check Craiglist or a local Facebook group before you buy.

I’ve got several neighbors who have taken advantage of Covid-lockdowns to clean their attics and kids empty bedrooms. Any wedding presents leftover from a kid’s long ago wedding- for sale on Craigslist. I’ve seen entire sets of china-- unused- on sale, still in the Bloomingdale’s boxes. Enough Cuisinarts to open a restaurant. I saw one brand new, unopened box Kitchenaid last week but it was a trendy color which wouldn’t work in my kitchen (I’m not talented enough to paint!)

This stuff is heavy so not really candidates for Ebay or Mercari- but if someone in your neighborhood is selling off their kids stuff (because the married couple live in a studio apartment and would rather have the cash now than the stuff) you can score a REALLY good deal!

I still have the Kitchenaid hand mixer I got for my first apartment. How it pains me that it’s still working fine after 40 years of constant use, so I have no excuse to upgrade!!! It’s even survived a few total immersions in a sink of hot soapy water (an accidental dunking of course) without missing a beat(er). Everything else seems to die after 5 years but not the kitchenaid!

My KitchenAid mixer is plain and boring - grey. After looking at decals, Unamore, etc., I’m thinking about asking little kid to paint it for me as a birthday present :gift:. Back when she was in high school, her sculpture painting project made all the way to finals in a national competition, so I am confident it will be a job well done.

Awwww @BunsenBurner what a personal touch that would be if your D can paint it! If so, please let us see!!!

Of course!! I am sure she will agree. Please bear with me; it might not happen for a while because I am a summer child.
