Saw the photos of what Kline (dining hall) will look like once the reconstruction is done:

But was curious if construction already started and when it will be completed?

Yes, construction is underway. The L&T freshmen are eating all meals under a big tent. It’s pretty comfortable. There’s even an airconditioned section, which was a life saver for me on drop off day. I believe the dining room will be complete in September. I heard that they are doing the kitchen some other time.

Word on the street is they’ll be moving inside by Oct 1…ish.

Thanks! Wonderful news and I love the design concept. Seems like Kline will be much more airy and inviting. And I do appreciate Bard being careful and wisely spend money on campus construction on actual needs – as opposed to my alma mater who just spent tons of $$ on a retractable roof over their football stadium. :-(

We were told during move-in that the seating area expansion will be this year, concluding by Oct 1 or earlier. Next year, they said, they plan to do the “eatery” area.

Eating in the tent this weekend should be…interesting.

The emergency preparedness email that just arrived tells me that several buildings have backup generators and could be used as “areas of refuge.” They’re including Kline in that, but I don’t see how it would work, given that the students are eating outside.

Bard does lose power during big storms, so first year students should definitely charge their phones/computers now while they can!

Apparently tomorrow we’re able to eat inside Kline, so it all works out, though I think they should allow us to eat there today also. It’s raining a lot here.

Good to know, lilygraces. I was under the impression that Kline was completely offline. D tells me that the rugby field, where the tent is, often floods, so that would definitely be a problem in a hurricane!
